I've created the race "Enigma" as a fun experiment on making dnd races, but this is my first time making one. I'm not sure if this is a balanced or if it makes sense but I want to make this race a viable option for my players when I start my next campaign. dndbeyond.com/races/1695957-enigma
If they gain the racial traits of whatever race they become then you should remove all the other racial traits of this race since it makes no sense. If they become that other race why would they keep any racial features of their own? It's also potentially super OP if they get 3! skill proficiencies from Enigma then can get 2 more skill proficiencies from whichever race they turn into.
I also don't understand why reducing the number of racial options would reduce the number of traits they gain? Do they stop fully transforming into the race?
Either:
1) reduce the number of skill proficiencies they get from Enigma to 2, and then specify in the Trait Exchange that they do not gain any skill proficiencies from their new race.
or
2) remove all skill proficiencies from Enigma and allow them to always gain all the traits (other than ability score boosts) of their new race.
Thank you, I had thought reducing the racial traits when giving them control over what they want to be would make sure they didn't choose races that already have broken traits and just spam those races. But you make some good points so I edited it, so it doesn't have that flaw.
