I recently had an idea of a character that had Multiple Personalities, so that two people could play the same character. The reason for this is so that me and the DM could switch off DMing, so we could both be players. When he played the character, it would have one personality, alignment, etc, and when I played the character, he would have a different personality, alignment, etc. That way, both me and him cold role play the character how we wanted, while only having to agree on the character's class and leveling. I was wondering about the Beyond community's thoughts on the idea.
Edit: Forgive me if this is the wrong section for this idea.
I like it! You and your co-DM will have to come up with some rules on how much this character will be able to offer advice and opinions. You're both going to be able to know the whole story, so you have to be careful. I'd suggest some more ways this character has lost a few marbles, so that they aren't really consulted with on important decisions. You don't want to inadvertently give the other players clues, you know?
That gives me an idea for a dungeon. Part is in some strange planar mini dimension dungeon. Ever X rounds (or the DM rolls a D 20 and anytime a 1 through 5 is rolled), the players minds switch bodies. The players have to hand their character sheets to the player to their right.
If you game involves players having lots of secrets from each other, you would want to prepare safe sheets that only give stats, attacks, etc. but not background/fluff.

My Mountain Dwarf Fighter, from the Peaks of Winter Play by Post. I'm very proud of him. Thanks to VillainTheory for backstory inspiration.

A bipolar? Ah! that's great. Make two or three personalities and roll a dice after a long rest to see which one is going to play.

Great thinking! There's lots of ways that you do this too. How about one player is in charge during the day, and the other at night?
EDIT:
Even more hilarious, keep the stats the same, but both personalities have different classes!
