You get two 3rd level spell slots at Level 5, after 3 days, you can get a group of 4 skeletons, 5 if you spent one extra on that day.
You should really use undead to their maximum potential, undead cannot get exhausted, so use them to pull your carts, carry items and act as guards. If you’re scared of having many skeletons to keep track of, use the mob rules in order to crunch their time down.
Seeing how expensive the spell is, Animate Dead is a long term investment, any undead you make should be in the sidelines helping out, I recommend using Skeletons, as they are faster, have higher AC and can shoot arrows compared to a Zombie. They can pepper your enemies while staying 80 feet away and even be used as a trap trigger.
If all 4 skeletons hit, that’s about 4d6 + 12 damage, which racks up fast given the right conditions, you also should account for how your going to keep all the dead bodies, otherwise, happy necromancy!

I like playing DnD creatively, not "what's the strongest" but "what's the coolest/unique thing to do" to surprise the DM.
So with that, I really want to focus on using Animate the Dead to spice the game up a bit.
What's your best Animate the Dead story that could help me use the spell.
Thanks!
