Eldritch Blast, Agonizing Blast and Repelling Blast
Never use your glaive, instead use AoO's to repel the idiots that get within 10 ft of you. He he he.
Due to EB's not being a single-target spell after 4th level, I don't believe that build is as good as you think it is.
The requirement is that the spell must only target that creature, not that it be a single target spell. You can also use Magic Missile, it''s just that all the missiles must strike that one target.
I think the first answer was the best! The second one is pretty great too! Both would be very deadly. I'm sure there are some Barbarian builds that would rival or equal them.
Asi (in order): STR+2, Polearm Master, STR+2, Resilient Wisdom, Spell Sniper (wizard: booming blade), Warcaster, Mobile
This allows you to spread Unwavering Mark very widely to help keep focus on you. With spell sniper, pam and warcaster, you can booming blade each creature that triggers your AOO. Your many attacks as a fighter couple with mobile lets you reset your PAM every round, forcing them to either follow you and be damaged by booming blade or lose their turn -- unwavering mark gives them disadvantage if they attack anyone other than you. Some dm might insist that the order of operations prevents using warcaster with Vigilant Defender, but imo it works since Warcaster lets you replace AOO with a spell.
Earth genasi is for the stat spread plus the innate spell. Being a heavy armor user that can stealth is good, and you need a spell for two of your feats.
Another killer polearm build is an Oath breaker paladin 8/hexblade warlock 12 setup.
Scourge aasimar
Start paladin for heavy armor proficiency, second level in warlock to get hexwarrior (have to use a one handef weapon for now), next 4 levels in paladin for extra attack at character level6, then 4 levels in warlock for pact of the blade (letting you use charisma on a polearm) and your second asi at character level 9, then finish paladin levels and then finish warlock levels.
ASI (in order): CHA+2, Polearm Master, Great Weapon Master, CHA+2, CON+2
This lets you set-up turn 1 with your racial action and hexblades curse. From then on you get 3 attacks a turn each with a flat +31 to damage (without magic weapons), with an additional +character level in damage on the first hit. Uses divine smite and eldritch smite to pump damage further.
This build comes online LATE overall, but even at lower levels it has some decent things going for it because you are a paladin with an expanded crit range due to hexblades curse.

Unwavering mark only applies when the creature is within five feet of you. If you put it on them while they are 10’ away, or you move after you mark them, it would end. You could maybe argue the bonus attack if they damage some else would still apply, but the disadvantage is only if they are within 5’.
I actually have a half orc warlock level 5 using a glaive with pole arm master. And devils sight and darkness. Get my 2 attacks at level 5 + bonus attack. Thinking about switching to fighter for at least 4 levels to get sentinel. The glance is a lot of fun.

Once a Marine, always a Marine.
