This is for a character that I will be playing in the future, I am just working on him now while I have the time, but I won't be playing him right away.
I want to make to a character that was taken by the Fey, into the Feywild when he was only a few weeks old, and raised there, believing the Fey who took him was actually his mother. He has developed intense bonds of friendship with many fey creatures and was taught illusion and nature magic by his "mother."
Until one fateful day, he had never seen another human in his entire life and had no idea what the material plane was like.
When he was 18, a group of savage barbarian hunters, some how made their way into the Feywild and start trapping and killing the fey creatures that he considers friends.
Ignoring his mothers warnings to hide, he goes to try and help his friends, being able to cast powerful illusion and nature magic he frees several fey, before coming face to face to with hunters to try to trap him. They manage to snare him, which causes him to panic and unconsciously cast his most powerful offensive spells at them, killing 2 of them and injuring the others.
The hunters retreat but he has not only revealed himself and used Fey magic in the presence of mortals, but killed two of them.
For his crimes, he is exciled back to the material plane and never allowed to return to Feywild.
So cut off from the only home and family that he has ever known and alone in the world, he some how has to pick up the pieces of his broken life and start again.
He tries to return to the Feywild several times, but finds his way blocked. He gets lost in the Ethereal and always ends up back on the material.
As the life essence that he was imbued with by growing up in the Feywild begins to fade, he starts to get sick, his magic becomes weaker, he begins to feel the effects of age and gets increasingly desperate to return back home.
Any hints or tips on how I could make this character?
Sounds like Oath of the Ancients Paladin could be appropriate for your concept.

You don't know what fear is until you've witnessed a drunk bird divebombing you while carrying a screaming Kobold throwing fire anywhere and everywhere.
for the race I was seeing a wild elf as I was reading your post, fey connection and then the separation could explain why he is now wild (no official standing among elvish communities)
nature magic would suggest druid or ranger maybe but with illusion magic also, I thought of wizard... lots of illusion and many of their other spells have natural themes (fire, cold, wind etc.)... as for his getting sick, wizards have low hp due to their low Hit Dice (d6)
Wild elf would be a better thematic fit I think. I had been thinking of a Human who hadnt aged like you would have expected because of living in the Feywild his entire life.
Time has passed much more slowly for him. So he is 18 when he was exciled, but time on the material plane has moved on 100 or more years since he was taken.
Elves could naturally live that long though and would be a better thematic fit I think.
Wouldn't an Archfey Warlock be the choice to go for, when the character wants to regain his magic? I mean, he might actually become bonded to an archfey that is antithetical to everything his 'family' stood for. On the other hand, if ALL of the fey have ostracized him, a warlock could still fit thematically, as he might be desperate to replacing his waning powers with anything... If you are a variant Human, choose Magic Initiate as a Feat to represent the last vestiges of your former fey magic.
How ironic. I have a player in my group that has a very similar backstory. He is a half elf in a world where humans are almost unheard of. As a baby he and his mother were ostracized by the other Elven people so she fled into the ancient forest. Here they were hunted by trolls until they stumbled upon a Forest City called Shinaelestra. As they slept in safety, the Fading City took them into the wild, vibrant lands of the Feywild where they lived for years among the fairy's and magical creatures. One night at dusk, the Formians attacked in force and the character snuck from the safety of his house to watch from the battlements. As he watched hidden, a wave of pure power rolled out from the depths of the forest, washing over him and throwing him from the walls. When he awoke, he was being nursed back to health weeks later back in an elven settlement back on the material plane. His mother had found him and fled the city in the night as Formian invaders battled the elodrians within the city itself. All over his skin he had faint scars, symbols of unknown origins.
As a youth, the character was always an outcast among the other elves. He was strange birth in his actions and his heritage. One day when the bullying got particularly violent, the character let out an eruption of magic that killed some of his attackers and injuring the others. In the aftermath, he and his mother fled again, this time to a distant town with an odd mix of races, beliefs and more tolerant perspectives. It was here that he learned to channel the strange fey power that was trapped inside him and here he sort answers to his father, the strange symbols that increase in detail with every use of his innate magic and the event that trapped the power within him.

Of course, in terms of meta, I could choose to be an Archfey Warlock, but thematically, that would be at odds with this character being exciled from the Feywild.
One would assume that at least one Archfey would have to be involved to enforce the block that the character experiences when trying to get back to the Feywild, since he is just blocked from ever returning, directly or indirectly.
He can't make his way to the Feywild through the Ethereal, and he can't just planeshift or use magic to get back there either.
Every attempt he makes, bounces him back to the material plane, although it doesn't cause him any direct harm, other than just redirecting him away from the Feywild.
So I would sort of imagine that multiple Archfey are in agreement about the character never been allowed to return.
He could still become a Warlock, but would that fit? It seems that he might not want to go down the dark path of becoming a GOO Warlock, and having grown up in the Feywild, I am not sure he would be particularly fond of devils or other fiends either.
Then again, devils are tricky, perhaps they know a way for him to return and dangle in front of him to distract him from what he is really agreeing to become.
Interesting.

Hmmm. If you don't want to play a warlock with a Fey pact that is fine. However, just because one capricious powerful fey banished him or her doesn't mean that another capricious fey wouldn't see playing with this poor mortal that has been returned to regular world.

I guess it depends on how much the character would like to 'regain' his magic or at least prevent his deterioration through certain means. It seems to me to be a good story hook: a contract with whatever entity out of desperation for survival. You could represent his weakening with a lower Strength rating or even Constitution as well. If you'd start off with both at 8, you'd be a typical glass cannon warlock, but with good reason.

So you're making a Fey variant of Tarzan?
I'd say keep it simple. Race Mark of Shadow Elf. Class Ranger.

So he is a Half-Elven Sorcerer.
