I just got into a grp of old friends who are starting a new campain, so im chilling and looking through my books to see what i should play. The campain will start at lvl 1 and progress to around lvl 12. The GM told me all official books are a go and UA and stuff is case by case.
So im intrested if there are any crit-fishing archery/x-bow builds that come online around lvl's 5-8 ? All suggestions are appreciated.
The champion subclass of fighter also increases crit range. And rogue is a good way to keep geting advantage (bonus action hide) and benefit from crits (sneak attack).

Yup!
In case you're wondering, a 19-20 crit range results in (very) slightly more crits than Advantage (10% vs 9.75%), although Advantage wins out with Elven Accuracy (14.3%). Obviously, all three together is best (a whopping 27.1% chance to crit, which means you can expect roughly one out of every 4 attacks to crit!).
Huh... I didn't realize the change in crit odds would be so slight... lol really oversimplified logic told me that it would be a 1/20 chance, so that would be 5%, and that adding another number to that would just bump it to 10%.

Oh, I see... I did not mean that a 19-20 crit range gives you "(very) slightly more crits" than the standard 20 crit range. I meant 19-20 crit range without Advantage gives you slightly more crits than the standard crit range (20) with Advantage. It breaks down like this:
Standard crit range (20) = 5% chance to crit
Standard crit range (20) with Advantage = 9.75% chance to crit
Extended crit range (19-20) = 10% chance to crit
Standard crit range (20) with Advantage and Elven Accuracy = 14.3% chance to crit
Extended crit range (19-20) with Advantage = 19% chance to crit
Extended crit range (19-20) with Advantage and Elven Accuracy = 27.1% chance to crit
The reason I started out comparing "Extended crit range" vs "Advantage" is because a Champion will always have the Extended crit range, but not usually Advantage, while a Rogue will have the standard crit range, but will often have Advantage (due to bonus action hide).

If you simply change the crit odds, by increasing range from 20 to 19-20, the chance simply increases by 5% as you describe. If you roll a second die, 5% of your non-crits will become crits, resulting in an overall increase of only 4.75%.
Of course, the numbers go higher if you go for Champion 15, with the even better crit range 18-20, but then you lose out on 12 levels of Rogue with Backstab, so you'll crit even more often, but will do less damage with each crit. Although, again, this is balanced by attacking more often due to Extra Attack, which you don't get with Rogue. But a "crit fishing" build is usually characterized not by frequent attacks, but by big crits. (Not that frequent attacks are bad for a crit fishing build... if you manage to get more attacks without sacrificing big crits, sweet!)
So far my ideas have been around hexblade, curse for 19-20 critrange, pact of the blade and improved pact of the blade for magical ranged weapon, Eldritsh Smite for big crits and Thirsting blade for an extra attack for more chances to get crits. All that comes online at lvl five, My plan after that is to pick up rogue and get myself a sneak attack

So Warlock 1-5 after that rogue x
That's not a bad option. Bear in mind, though, if you're going Hexblade, you might not get that much out of Rogue, since Eldritch Smite already makes your crits big (and keeps on scaling with level). Not that it's a bad option (Warlocks, especially Hexblade, are pretty front-loaded, so they make good classes to just take a couple of levels in), just something to consider. On the other hand, Champion 5 gives you the same crit range (but non-situationally... Hexblade's Curse is realistically only one target per combat, at least until lvl 14), the same number of attacks per turn, but no "smite", and really more or less the same weapon options. "Smite" you can get in other ways (Rogue Sneak Attack, Paladin Divine Smite).
Also, near in mind if you're going the Rogue route for Sneak Attack, you'll be limited to finesse or range weapons, even with Hexblade.
I'm not really recommending one over the other, just laying out options and info. I'm not entirely sure which combination is mechanically optimal, but likely they're all similar enough that it comes down to which flavor you enjoy the most (Paladin/Champion is almost diametrically opposite to Hexblade in terms of flavor, for example).

Not exactly a build, but you're probably gonna want to make an Elf, and take Elven Accuracy, for that extra chance, per attack, to roll a crit.
