Okay so I was very disappointed that I couldn't really do a shield and lance centaur But to new aspirations I was looking through necromancy in the book and realized nothing said an armed undead couldn't mount you!!!
So I am making a centaur necromancer, the plan is to get an undead armored and equipped with a lance and shield on my back to assist in my attacks! You see the riding skill is specifically for things like calming your mount and stuff but I am the mount so really there aren't many scenarios that I need my undead buddy to do those checks and I can also strap him in there to prevent him from falling off since comfort isn't really an issue here for an undead.
Here is where I need help though I need to know what is better for this, should I go wizard necromancer, paladin oath breaker, or cleric death domain? I know centaurs get +2 str and +1 wis, they get 40 movement as base, and have the ability to charge and follow up an attack with a unarmed bludgeon attack from their hooves.
I really want to do this kind of reverse horsemen concept I can only imagine the backstories and stuff to make for it already! All help and advice will be appreciated!!!!
You would have different initiatives. If a DM allowed the centaur to be a mount, the rule is that intelligent mounts act independently and have their own initiative. If the DM allows you to act as a dedicated mount, the rules state you can only take the dash, dodge, or disengage actions. If the DM wanted to stick with the rules, you would be further held to just using your movement as a reaction on the undead rider's turn. In other words, getting this to work would take a lot of homebrewing by your DM. I mention this because the charge feature and attacks by the centaur are eliminated when choosing to be a mount. If attacks are kept, the undead is just limited to attacking whatever you are near during it's turn. But if that's what you are after, that's a different story. And just to point out, the rule for mounts is that they have to be one size larger...PC centaurs are medium creatures, same as undead raised by player spells.
on the size thing it does say for your carry weight and stuff is counted as one size larger so didn't know if that effected it since realistically I would think so. But yeah didn't think about that was thinking more of using magic then relying on my undead on my back for melee like a single unit... that sucks though ohwell was a cool idea just didn't work out on to the next one lol thanks for the help!
