I've been thinking about the Spell Glyph application of the 3rd level Glyph of Warding. While the most common applications are to create a high damage trap on an object such as a chest, book or door, there are probably very creative things you could do with this spell. What are some 5th level and lower spells that would be fun to link with Glyph of Warding, either from the perspective of an adventurer or an evil overlord?
Some ideas:
* Pyrotechnics - In a room lit by a large number of candles, could blind several creatures at once. If the room has pressure-plate or tripwire traps, there's likely going to be a lot of bleeding.
* Enemies Abound - Who is friend and who is foe? A failed INT save means the creature don't know!
* Transmute Rock to Mud - Instant cave-in, but with mud.
* Plant Growth - Guess someone's going to be stuck in that room for quite a few rounds. It's a good thing there's no poisonous gas leaking into this room...right? right??
* Hypnotic Pattern - Sometimes you just want to capture an intruder without hurting them, other times you want to flood the room with Intellect Devourers.
* Enlarge - Put on a trapdoor in 4' X 4' tunnel, turn a Small creature to a Medium size creature or Medium size creature to a Large creature. Guess someone's going to be stuck for a while like Pooh after eating too much honey.
It is my understanding, that the spells triggered by the Glyph do not need concentration (concentration is maintained by the glyph), as such they are perfect to buff a bad guy inside her hideout.
I did a Jurassic Park themed one-shot and put Mage Hand on the Glyph of Warding and put it on various documents. When triggered the Mage Hand shook it's finger and the paper folded up into a mouth and said "Ah ah ah...ah ah ah" (like the computer virus Dennis made).

Stop thinking of offense and think of defense. Basically, it is a free 3rd level "potion", any spell.
Use it on your home and put in POSITIVE spells. Step on this glyph and get an emergency Cure Wounds upcast to 3rd level.
Afraid of having a spell cast on you? Dispel Magic Glyph. And do not forget the Remove Curse Glyph.
Haste, Tenser's Transformation, Fire Shield, Shadow of Moil, so many different buffs you could stack.
A fool pulls the leaves. A brute chops the trunk. A sage digs the roots.

What are some good combinations of defensive spells that would go with Glyph of Warding?
Everything. All the defensive spells. (Partially sarcasm. Will post more when I have time.)
A fool pulls the leaves. A brute chops the trunk. A sage digs the roots.
My Improved Lineage System
In addition to the ones I posted above, Blur, Mirror Image, Blink, any healing spell, and a lot of other buffs.
