So i am trying to build a ranged character that is good at commanding his allies and keeping himself alive. I have three builds currently that i think would work but, i wanted to get some more professional eyes to give me some tips and tricks. Thanks in advanced.
I think Battlemaster and Mastermind are a good combo... but honestly it's not worth going for a sort of "half-and-half" approach. If your focus is on survivability and commanding your allies, then I think Battlemaster should be your primary focus... I would go Battlemaster17, Mastermind3. Rogue is pretty front-loaded with some of the class's best features... You get expertise right off the bat, and while your sneak attack isn't much, 2d6 is nothing to sneeze at for a fighter. There's also a major redundancy in taking both classes to higher levels... The Mastermind's 9th level Insightful Manipulator ability is nearly identical to the Battlemaster's 7th level Know Your Enemy ability... except at 7th level the Battlemaster also gets two more maneuvers and a Superiority die at the same level.
Honestly, they're pretty good classes to combo. You don't have a lot of competing Bonus Action abilities, so getting a free 30 ft Range Help action most rounds is a pretty solid improvement to the Battlemaster. I'd recommend taking 3 levels in fighter to start, multiclassing into Rogue for 3 more levels, then just sticking with Battlemaster for the rest of your adventure.
I think all of the builds are viable. I’m not an optimization expert though. I’m partial to the third, some sneak attack and maneuvers to help the party (I like Commander’s Strike and Distracting Strike)

So your character is going to boss the rest of the party around from cover? Hmm.

Yeah to try and lay down some range fire while keeping himself safe.
Not much different than a buffer/debuffer staying back and helping out the party. The general doesn’t have to lead the charge
