How do you get a 1d8+1d6+5 in your first round of combat?
It sounds like they should have said 1d8 (quarterstaff) + 1d6 (hex) + 3 attack modifier and possibility added the proficiency bonus mistakenly to the damage.
Probably a Variant Human Hexblade Warlock with the Fey Touched feat, using it to pick up Tasha's Hideous Laughter as a 1st level spell. Gives access to Hexblade's Curse, which is one of the best level 1 abilities in the game. Hideous Laughter is also another super useful level 1 spell. You're still pretty "one and done", in that you'll burn through resources quickly so you won't be able to handle a lot of combat in a single day. But honestly, you'll probably gain enough XP to gain another level by the time you're done with a solid day of adventuring.
ey man what if it was lvl 3 what would it have for eldritch invocations and what pact boon would it have?

For a Hexblade especially, you want to max out CHA, since the subclass allows you to attack through CHA in addition to using it for spellcasting. You'll probably want Pact of the Blade, since you kind of require it to get full use of your ability to use martial weapons... Hexblade does not get Extra Attack on its own, but you can take the the Thirsting Blade invocation which basically gives you extra attack, or the Lifedrinker invocation, which adds your CHA modifier to your attacks. It's even worth it to grab Improved Pact Weapon, which gives you a +1 to your attacks and otherwise gives you more options for your pact weapon and allows you to use it as a spellcasting focus.
That said... it's also possible to be a Hexblade and not actually be a melee combatant. The benefits of Hexblade's Curse aren't limited to melee weapon attacks... in many ways it's easier to just remain the traditional Eldritch Blaster.
Well the power depend more on the items and ressources you have.
A druid with unlimited ressources can use spell scrolls unitl he can cast enhance ability (lv2) [DC12] to get owl wisdom giving acces to advange in his using spell scroll checks (don't forget to use guidance to help) then he could to cast Foresight (lv9) [DC19]. to take have advantage on everything (ability, attacks, saving throws) and giving disavantages to ennemies attacks against you.
After that you can conjure something like 32 giant owl (lv3 spell upcast to 9)[DC19] and watch them win fight with their 128 average dpr.
Meanwhile you and your team drink mojitos
Don't forget to take resilient con as custom ligneage feat.

What book had Bruce Wayne as a background option?
Some comic, I guess.

How is making the assumption a character has unlimited resources even a build? That makes no sense. The point of the thread is to be an intellectual exercise in how to squeeze out as much efficacy as possible with the player character options.
“my character has unlimited resources” seems to defeat the fun and goal of this thread.

I agree. No good dm would give level ones a magic item. Just go with class and background starting equipment.

Speaking of backgrounds, strixhaven backgrounds are pure benefit over others, giving a free feat. For my monk, the extra stuff will be most beneficial for utility purposes because none of the options give anything helpful for this type of assassination. So quandrix with goodberry as the first level spell is the best strixhaven background for the one turn kill monk.
In terms of combat power, probably an V Human Undead Warlock with 16Strength, 14Dex pole arm master feat, cause fear, hex and booming blade is probably just about the best build you can do.
A couple more:
A melee-oriented high-strength Fathomless warlock with Fey touched and either dissonant whispers or sleep.
A melee-oriented Shadow Sorcerer with sleep. For this I would go either half orc (and mage armor) or mountain dwarf (and shield spell).
All three of these have some abilities that most other classes can't match.
The undead warlock gets 2 attacks a turn and in 2 fights a day can frighten enemies. She can do it from 10 feet away too, meaning they can't approach her if they fail the save.
The Fathomless also gets 2 attacks in 2 fights a day and can use dissonant whispers followed by an AOO.
The shadow sorcerer would be an odd build with a 12 charisma and 16 strength. With relentless endurance and strength of the grave it would take up to 3 times taking you to 0hp to put you down, alternatively with medium armor and the shield spell and strength of grave you would still be difficult to put down.
Edit: Another one I thought of is a V human tempest cleric with 16 strength. Pick up sleep either through Fey touched or through magic initiate along with the booming blade cantrip. If your DM allows you to use spell slots for the magic initiate spell then MI is the better choice for a 1-level build if not then FT is better. With FT you could actually go 16S, 16C, 16W on point buy .... but I still think MI is better if you can use cleric slots for sleep.

The shadow sorcerer is truly an odd build indeed. But as someone currently playing a half orc character, I know how good it is to just say “no” to being reduced to 0hp

Not sure if booming blade beats AB EB though. I guess for melee. And would you pick a single round for dissonant whispers once a day for perhaps an extra 3d6 (with a bit of a compromised DC owing to your 12 cha), or would you rather +3 damage on every cantrip attack?
Also, booming blade doesn't work with the polearm master feat (its a cast spell action). I do really like the temp 1d10+1hp you are getting from the transformation though, and I think you will come out on top from the fathomless by .5 DPR. They are both sustained damage too, which I really like. The only downside to going melee polearm here is that you give up your shield, and in melee its easy to lose concentration on hex if you get hit a bit.
Do any of these beat the 33 average of the bugbear monk’s first round assuming no misses?
And also assuming he beats them in initiative or is willing to take AOOs to capitalize on this.
Also I don't think it is 33. Unless I am missing something it is 1d4 (unarmed strike)+1d8(spear/staff)+4d6+6 assuming a 16 dexterity. That is 27, not 33.

Ahh yep, that sounds better.
Hex as bonus action, two-handed attack with quarter staff as action, +5 from +3 DEX and +2 from Proficiency.
Impressive. I don’t have monsters of the multiverse, but ill keep it in mind.
