A lot of things we learn in the new video about 1D&D feels weird to me but at the same time Unearthed Arcana meterial is there to Playtest. Things like Crit being weapon/unarmed attack only generated by PCs and not DM, Crits and Human granting Inspiration, which are transferrable will be more common occurance, ASI through Background makes the whole Character Creation deconstructed even if in the final it looks similar to a 5E one.

I don't like the concept of spells that have an attack roll can't crit.
I like everything they said about the changes to character race and backgrounds. The new Feat design also sounds really good. I am just not too sure about the critical changes.

Could be one way to help balance between spellcasters and martials
Honestly despite what so many people wish I dont think they're ever going to be able to be able to fix that. Because lets be honest on one hand you have the swords/bows/other weapons and on the other you have reality bending power. In order to balance them you'd have to either nerf magic into the ground or figure out how to elevate martials to unprecedented heights probably with "totally not magic", which you know people will complain about.

If I can't say something nice, I try to not say anything at all. So if I suddenly stop participating in a topic that's probably why.
I am also unsure of the Inspiration changes either. It is a system that strongly favors characters that roll lots of dice. Maybe after some playtesting I will feel different about it though.
If you're not willing or able to to discuss in good faith, then don't be surprised if I don't respond, there are better things in life for me to do than humour you. This signature is that response.
I think the change to unarmed strikes is interesting. Feels like a potential buff to Monks (since they can automatically grapple or shove on a hit and they get to make alot of unarmed attacks each turn) and a nerf to Barbarians (assuming grappling and shoving will no longer be tied to the Athletics skill in any capacity)

I think the idea is to encourage people to use it more. Since you lose it after a long rest, and can't have more than one at a time; they really want people spending them. But it's a good point, a fighter getting lots of attack will get it much more than a wizard forcing others to make saving throws. I think that's what people mean when they say it might help balance out martials, since they'll get inspiration more often, and are encouraged to spend a lot of it.
Will primal magic help with how spell casters would work in say a campaign setting like Darksun? Not to try to start a "can they do Darksun in 5E" debate, but from what I remember, clerics didn't have gods to draw their magic from and things like defilers pulling from the world and life itself. Adding Arcane, Divine, and Primal spell lists might help facilitate campaign ideas like that. I wonder if classes will still have their own spell lists, or will classes just pull from one of the three? Haven't finished the video yet, but wanted to see what people think about these new spell lists.
Edit: watched a few more minutes and I guess they will pull from these three (maybe just one or a combo) but will also have their own list, it seems

I was thinking along the same lines. Arcane/divine/psionic/primal was a useful distinction in 3e.

They need to add Psionics as the 4th

There is soo much to unpack from this video that I don't even know where to start.

"The PDF will be available on August 18th at 12:00PM PST."
Ok, thanks. I guess the announcement of "out now" in the livestream was a bit premature.

Still working my way through the video, but man. It's thicc. So much juicy information. Highly recommend watching.
Please do not contact or message me.
yeah, when i saw the 1 hour + run time, i thought it was going to be the whole Wizard presentation all over again.
But to my happy surprise, it's on focus and got a LOT to disseminate.

I really don't think the lack of Fire Bolt criticals will solve this issue though.

So it releases in half an hour, right?
