That's excessive and unbalancing, IMO. It's already too easy to damage characters in this game.
What's their logic behind making it a +2 rather than a +1?
The issue isn't that it's +2, the issue is that what it counter-acts is undone by some feats like sharpshooter. The +2 would counter half-cover (-2), reduce three-quarters cover (-5) and help with no cover, since ranged characters are usually behind their own team then they often get issues with cover as they need to shoot past their own team-members. But if you have sharpshooter then you ignore anything but full cover and also get that +2. It should probably adjust based on cover but that'd make it more complicated than any of the other fighting styles...
