As the first UA with Monk barely modified the 5E Monk's Deflect Missiles, I wanted to speculate on what a more useful Deflect Attack would look like. I did my best to compile all possible options for a Deflect Attack that works for melee and range. Please vote for what you think is the most appropriate for each option.
For balancing purposes, I think the following need to be kept in mind for finalization.
Monks damage output in Tier 1 & 2 should remain roughly the same as 5E. If the Deflect Attack deals too much damage, then the Monk's regular action damage can be reduced.
Monks damage output in Tier 3 & 4 should increase (which may be fixed with something separate from Deflect Attack.)
Any feature that can trigger an off turn sneak attack should not be available on levels 1 or 2. This is to avoid tempting Rogue/Monk multiclasses.
