hmm, seems like we should still be using the UA4 version until further notice. mostly quality of life improvements, if I recall.
edit: one of us must be wrong, Ain. trial by combat?
I rolled a 3 on initiative so I guess you are likely to strike first. I won’t go down easy. Also the UA4 version literally contradicts Pact of the Chain. How can you get a skeleton with UA4 version.

i just assumed specific beats general.
also, a skeleton familiar is stupid. a whole ass humanoid skeleton at level one?? is it still a fey/fiend/etc spirit or is that, like, a former friend? couldn't devs have gone the extra inch and called it an 'animal skeleton' just to ground our imaginations within a magnitude of the size of other familiars? is this some elf's bones or like a gnome skeleton on par with the height of someone else's sprite?
...also also, there's far too much pre-paperwork to agree on before initiative: time, venue, ranged or melee, champions, seconds, mercy rules... i'll just accede to your being more right-enough than i am not-lazy.

So It appears, after a bit of wiggling around the document, that we are to be using the 2014 wizard spell list.
Imp supremacy for warlocks it is then.
Imp is still the best overall option, but I do find it hilarious how they give you the option for a skeleton.
All the other options are tiny, but the skeleton (hereafter referred to as Mr. Bones) is a full blown medium sized creature with 10 strength, this gives it the highest carrying capacity (150 lbs) out of all the familiar options. Also Mr. Bones is immune to exhaustion, so it can and will carry everything for the warlock tirelessly. Heck, a small Warlock could theoretically ride Mr. Bones into battle in similar fashion to the Battle Smith's Steel Defender. Then at level 5 you can take Investment of the Chain Master to grant Mr. Bones a Flying speed giving you a non-concentration flying mount. Top it off with its vaguely humanoid shape Mr. Bones can equip weapons and armor (without any need to consider things like Barding).
Ooh, I just realized. With the UA version of Unarmed Strike changing Grapple and Shove to be saving throw based Investment of the Chain Master lets your skeleton familiar use your spell DC instead of one based on its strength. Course, that's true of any pact familiar, but being medium means Mr. Bones can grapple more sizes of creatures.
There's a surprising amount of options opened by having a medium sized Familiar.

It’s a fair trade to gain Mr Bones you give up the best scouting fimiliars in the game. Imps and sprites can just stay invisible and can squeeze places Mr Bones never could. Mr Bones becomes more of a mule and servant than scout. He is actually horrible as a scout. Now whether or not you can throw armor on Mr Bones is up to your DM.
also, a skeleton familiar is stupid. a whole ass humanoid skeleton at level one??
Just to point out, it's a level two invocation. It is an odd choice of a familiar, but I suspect it's to enable players that want to play warlock necromancers.
Mr Bones is going to be an interesting familiar to walk around a town with... can imagine a lot of places don't like necromancers, funnily enough explaining it's just a spirit in the shape of a skeleton... probably wouldn't work.

right, level 2. okay, but all i'm sayin is previously you had to cast a 3rd level spell to summon (or animate) your new clothes horse and they were just a temp. now you've got a familiar who has the height to pose as another member of the party. i'm here for the shenanigans that enables, but it just seems like like like giving a new car to a kid who just learned to drive? i don't know, something feels off about having a spooky scary skeleton sending shivers down spines so early.
...and, to bring us back round to the relevance of the original question: if you're using Otherworldly Familiar [UA4] stats, then they've got a 10 INT! do you see what this means? sassy magic butler. at level 1 level 2!!

We are using 2014 spell list according to how the play test works. If the spell isn’t in the spells section of the UA we are play testing the 2014 version this time. So your butler is dumb and you should never trust the sugar it puts in your tea, because it could be salt. Also the he fails at the primary use of most familiars, scouting. The Slaad Tadpole is the one I have a problem with because it is clearly inferior to all other options. It lacks shapechange and invisibility. I don’t see any benefit in the Slaad tadpole. At least the skeleton does allow a different use.

you can use what you like as long as you refer to the most recent [UA7] glossary. it says as much in the "This Is Playtest Material" box on the first page:

You’re right, but your sassy UA4 skeleton is tiny. There is no specific rule that makes your skeleton medium if you use UA4 version. I guess it could be an air, land or water using that UA’s find familiar. You could also use Pact Familiar from UA5, but then you are jumping though hoops and still your skeleton is by RAW is tiny. The only version that lets you have a medium skeleton is 2014 version. Also UA4 version doesn’t actually let your familiars use their own stat blocks so your pact of the chain familiar from UA7 wouldn’t have invisibility using the UA4 version. The UA7 pact of the chain says your familiar has a special form, but says nothing about size or statistics, the UA4 Find Familiar tells you it’s tiny, gives you stats and tells you the type of forms it can take. That special form by RAW wouldn’t change the stats or size.

Are we using the 2014 Find Familiar spell or the playtest version? The latest document offers no clarity
I would assume 2014 version since the newer playtest version wouldn’t work with Warlock invocations.
