Honestly, one of the problems I have with the Alchemist (which I think I've said multiple times I'm not fond of, lol) is that two of it's features are mostly taken up by being able to cast the restoration spells. If this were a class that didn't have access to spellcasting I could overlook that, but this is a spellcasting class, and both of those spells are already on the class list. Baking them in as subclass features not only feels lazy to me, I feel like it's pushing me into a style of play I'm not particularly interesting in playing.
I was also thinking back on this, how about if the Lesser Restoration feature was changed to:
You can cast lesserrestoration or rayofenfeeblement without expending spell slots up to Int Mod times per day. (Originally I was thinking Bestow Curse but that is 3rd level)
And along side greaterrestoration or contagion, soyou are both the source or the cure depending on your mood/stability of your potions.
(PS these share a resource so if you cast contagion you can only cast free greater restoration after a long rest and the same for the Int Mod spells, if you cast one it eats into the free casting of the other spell)
I could use a higher level slot to summon the turret to have it do more, I would gladly do so. By 17th level, asking for a turret that can do 6d8 per hit or 5d8 in a small aoe as a bonus action, is nothing.
Hey on the topic of turrets, what do you think if the free turret was changed to:
You can summon the turret for free as long as it has not been destroyed yet since long rest?
This lets it stay out for longer and just represents a winding up of the automaton unless it has been properly destroyed.
Had my first session as my Kobold Artificer in Out of the Abyss. I had a lot of blast, but don't have much feedback. For anyone who is familiar with the Out of the Abyss campaign, you start out enslaved and stripped of all equipment, so I can't spell cast or use any of my class features. We ended the session with my Kobold grovelling to distract the guards and we are about to rush them (at advantage thanks to my Kobold Grovelling) to escape.
Do we have any word on when Artificer 2019 will be up on D&D Beyond? It's supposed to be up here a week after it drops over at Wizards but we're coming up on 2 weeks now with no sign of it... :(
I am kicking myself right now for just now thinking of this as a feature for the Alchemist subclass:
Equivalent Exchange: You can change raw materials from one form to another, be it lead into gold, gold into gemstones, etc. The end product of this change must be of equivalent or lower value to the original material (for example, 10 gold's worth of lead can be changed into 10 gold, but not into 10 platinum). This feature cannot be used to make an item into a finished product, such as a lump of iron into a dagger.
Sound like a use for the Forge domain cleric Channel Divity ability: Artisen's Blessing. :)
Channel Divinity: Artisan's Blessing
Starting at 2nd level, you can use your Channel Divinity to create simple items.
You conduct an hour-long ritual that crafts a nonmagical item that must include some metal: a simple or martial weapon, a suit of armor, ten pieces of ammunition, a set of tools, or another metal object (see chapter 5, “Equipment,” in the Player’s Handbook for examples of these items). The creation is completed at the end of the hour, coalescing in an unoccupied space of your choice on a surface within 5 feet of you.
The thing you create can be something that is worth no more than 100 gp. As part of this ritual, you must lay out metal, which can include coins, with a value equal to the creation. The metal irretrievably coalesces and transforms into the creation at the ritual’s end, magically forming even nonmetal parts of the creation.
The ritual can create a duplicate of a nonmagical item that contains metal, such as a key, if you possess the original during the ritual.
The Forge domain cleric in my current group uses the ability to transform 100 gp or metal they have found into a 100 gp platinum ingot. This way, they don't lost 1/2 the value when selling metal armor and weapons they recover after battles. He usually does it just before a short rest if he hasn't yet used his Channel Divinity.

The only thing we got is that "it will take longer as expected" 1st march. We are now waiting nearly two weeks for some information. It will come but we dont know how long it will take or the status it is atm.
To be fair, this class has alot of new rules you have to programm anew. So it is not a low task. But at least I wished for some communication. Even if it is a " next monday we give you a new update" so that I dont have to look every two seconds on twitter or forum just to be dissapointed every 2 seconds.

I like it how it currently is. You get Lesser Restoration a number of times per day equal to you Intelligence modifier (which save a prepared spell selection) and, when you get it, you get Greater Restoration once per day (again saving a prepared spell selection).

The problem that @Mezzurah was pointing out previously was that this forces you into an Alchemist healing role, what if your theming is more of a mad scientist messing with poisons?
It is less about balance as I know I am making the feature more flexible hence stronger, but not by much as those spells are not key damaging spells more flavor and theme spells.
Something to keep in mind as well is that they based the alchemist off of our historical alchemists. And so, the homunculus, bringing people back from the dead, and creating the panacea cure all medicine is totally in line with thst theme. That being said, I can totally see them making another alchemical option that's all about creatong bombs and being the mad scientist. Regardless, i think that these would have to be separated into two different subclasses since they each have different sources of inspiration.

but doesn't the transmutation wizard school already kinda occupy this niche?
I expect other archetypes to come out that will cover that. As the Artifcer healer spec, its very good.
Christopher Walz, Alex Clippinger, Christian Eichhorn over on Dungeon Masters Guild have already put out a pdf Tools of the Trade: Artificer Options ($4.63 CAN) with 6 new archetypes and 10 new Infusions. It not official of course, but they are very good as examples and this you might you until more official materials become available. I personally like the Ironclad. :)

Will agree, the Ironclad looks pretty awesome. I also thought their take on the Golemancer was really interesting, using the corpses of your fallen foes as the basis for your golems.

I like that a lot better, yes. It does give it flexibility and it doesn't make me feel like I'm ignoring a substantial part of the subclass just to play my character the way I want to. I also don't think it's imbalancing at all, as it doesn't grant additional uses, all it does is open up choices for the uses you already have.

Awesome will be recommending this in the survey.
I don’t think others in the thread understood correctly, we want to make sure the “Alchemist” set of themes is not forced into a single mechanical niche. As that as that would discourage a whole group of people from using it. For example some Alchemists in the real word instead used leeches and poisons hoping they would help, sounds like mad scientists to me.
Good themes with mechanics that support the broad range of possible play styles is best.

Great ribbon ability. I was thinking something about permanent replicated magic items for core Artificer over long time period as a high level ribbon. But couldn’t think of a nice ribbon for Arterialist.
Hey @Mezzurah, I had an idea for the above Ribbons.
How about adding to the above ribbon that this can be done as a free action, this means it could be a cool combat feature. Imagine an Alchemist throwing up a bunch of dirt, changing it and storing it to make a vial of diluted poison then it slowly burns away as he casts Acid Spray.
For the Artillerist, if they accept my changes to make it a Xbow specialist, the ribbon feature could be "You can make repeatable crossbows with 6 bolts but only usable by yourself as the weapon is unstable and the reloading is fueled by your spellcasting."
I was also thinking back on this, how about if the Lesser Restoration feature was changed to:
You can cast lesser restoration or ray of enfeeblement without expending spell slots up to Int Mod times per day. (Originally I was thinking Bestow Curse but that is 3rd level)
And along side greater restoration or contagion, so you are both the source or the cure depending on your mood/stability of your potions.
