Hi there! First time creating a thread (or generally participating in the forums for that matter), but the topic is just as the title says: discussing the new Way of the Ascendant Dragon subclass for Monk!
I created the thread mostly because I have no idea how to give direct feedback on it but from what I'm seeing, it looks pretty solid and fun! Having options in way of the elemental damage you can do seems like a decent node to versatility, and having that breath attack and Ascendant Aspect of the Wyrm hand in hand will be a devastating combo together.
I will say though, the class features don't really do much, if anything, for monk weapons. That isn't to say it's a bad thing, the subclass already seems really stellar on its own! I think the only thing I would have liked to see is the elemental damage from unarmed attacks extending to monk weapons as well. Again though, that's just from my perspective of what I would have loved to applied to a character or two that I had in mind when reading over the new subclass.
Granted I'm bit inexperienced as a player so I'm not sure how that would affect the power scaling of it. What does everyone else think or how do you all feel about this new playtest subclass for Monk?
It has a very dynamic play-style...mixing up your punches & kicks with various elemental strikes you can swap at your leisure...breath weapons...temporary flying (with sick-looking wings)...a useful aura...and later; blindsight & EXPLOSIONS.
It's probably the most versatile monks subclass since the Open Hand Monk...and that's a VERY good thing.
I agree, the versatility is nothing to scoff at for these monks and with all those cool abilities, I'm pretty dang excited for it. Plenty of cool character ideas to mesh with a subclass like this too!
The Breath of the Dragon subclass feature doesn't level correctly when multi-classing: You're supposed to get 1 use per Proficiency Bonus point, just like the Fighter - Rune Knight feature Giant's Might. Giant's Might correctly shows 1 use available per Proficiency Bonus, but Breath of the Dragon's uses are showing up based on class level, not character level.

It's one of my favorite Monk subclasses so far.
