Hi guys! So, I've not been too active recently but I've been thinking about the taverns of DDB and what makes a good, or at least, a successful tavern. And it has occurred to me that the most successful taverns (the ones with hundreds of posts) all seem to share a couple characteristics. What do you guys think of this, and are there any more that I've missed?
1. Basic Fantasy Setting. Although there have been many good sci-fi and modern taverns over the years, the taverns with the highest post counts always seem to be fantasy- usually relatively light-hearted and 'everyday' fantasy
2 . Minimal Lore. Any lore that there is is conducted on the fly, or drip-fed throughout. The main 'title post' contains very little or even no lore. Maybe players like this as they can imagine their own lore? Or even construct the lore, as in the case of the Universe Canvas and Universe Smorgasbord
3. Static and small to begin with. Taverns that start off centred around one building, rather than a city, tend to live the longest. Usually, they expand their 'map border' when more people join, but originally, are a literal tavern or shop. Taverns set on vehicles or that involve much action seem to have a harder time, perhaps as people get separated from each other or confused if they leave and come back the next week and everything is completely different
4. Minimal race restrictions. People seem to like it when they can play whatever they want, not being limited to a human or whatever I guess?
5. Not based upon a franchise, and certainly not a niche one. Anyone can join, not those who are into the franchise.
Hi! I'm EJO. I am a silly billy who forgets to play Genshin Impact every day totally DOESN'T simp for at least three different ninja girls. Some other facts about me:
I main Milio in League of Legends, and therefore have extreme anxiety whenever my glass cannon Vayne main teammate charges at the enemy while I'm at the spawn zone.
My average accuracy in Marvel Rivals is about 19%.
If anyone says the words "Spider man lord" in my presence I will immediately lock myself in my room.

I don’t think this is necessarily true. Big taverns like Lord’s Rest are big because their members are all friends, not because of the genre.

This can be true, but I think it depends on the quality of the lore. As long as it’s kept as an optional little addition, I think unnecessary lore is perfectly acceptable.

True, but if done right location isn’t usually a problem. Cities are far more intimidating than one building, naturally.

True. Taverners hate all types of restrictions.
5. Not based upon a franchise, and certainly not a niche one. Anyone can join, not those who are into the franchise.
True. Niche taverns have worked in the past; franchise taverns have not.

I like cheese.
