I have a player in my group that I DM, that is an assassin, the rest of the group does not know this. This player is looking for assassin jobs to take so I came up with a clever way for him to come across jobs.
On town message boards, the players come across messages posted. Unbeknownst to the players, there is an encoded message within them which the assassin can spot thanks to his training.
The message seems to be hidden in the 3 messages with the same post date. You will have to take the first letter of each sentence to form a word. Each paragraph is the start of a new word. Each post is the start of a new sentence. The header or title of the post does not count in this.
Here were the 3 posts:

Kill Merchant Chosal. Breaker of words. Reward 10 plat.
This is a clever way for give jobs to a specific player without the other players knowing. I threw in other messages on the board as red herrings as well. Just thought I'd share it with you all. Will post more of these as I use them.
Its the same thing without working up a long code. Just say they noticed the code and found a job.
Keeping the characters class a secret from the rest of the party will be problematic in the long run.
Actually running the character through the mission would require a private session, unless his mission also incorporates a mission for the rest of the group. Which is hard to do more than once.
You could have the assassin character find the jobs for the group. Sort of.
He finds a job for himself and just tells the group that he found a job to track and hunt down an escaped criminal or debtor or something/whatever he can think of. And using the group to do the hunting he just steps in and assassinates the target after they find him but before they get to him. Or he accidentally kills him in the capture.
As for collecting the 'bounty'. I just thought of a neat way.
The assassin keeps the mission message with the targets and customers names attached. The assassin then takes something from the target that can be identified as his. The next time he is in a town with an assassin guild or group in it he could turn in the proof to them and they would pay him the bounty and take, or pass along the proof to the next group, to eventually give to the contractor for final and full payment.

Oh the player is a paladin, who is also an assassin. No one ever suspects the paladin
And I did do a mini session for him, 30min
