So, as I'm reading the summon beast spell, it would appear that the spell caster can speak to the beast-spirit (and so could anyone that also knows the language I'm using to communicate with the beast-spirit). It also seems that the beast-spirit cannot speak to anyone; however, it could use general body language or command-based answer systems. For example, "squack twice if you're hungry".
Is there something I'm missing where the beast-spirit can communicate to the summoner or allies?
The Beastial Spirit summoned by the spell has no formal way to communicate, but it has an Intelligence of 4, which makes it intelligent enough to be semi-coherent. There should be no issue with it attempting to communicate physically, or learning a basic call-and-response system. The only practical limitation here is that you only have so much time to work with it, so good luck establishing any kind of nuance.
