So I am starting a campaign a campaign at home with my 2 kids (9 and 7). I want to use dnd beyond but I do not want them to have their seperate accounts. Can we create all the characters in one account and they just login using their laptops concurrently? Also would I be able to put the map on my laptop in the middle of the table?
Basically can I log into the account with 3 different laptops because I really don't want my kids creating accounts. If not, I'll go buy the physical copy of the campaign.
You can log into D&D Beyond on multiple devices at once - I often am using it on my phone, a tablet, and a computer at the same time, and it has never been an issue.
I think the main thing for your purposes can be found in Paragraph 1.5 of the Terms and Conditions - it specifically notes that, for kids under the age of 13 in the US, or 16 internationally, they are not allowed to make their own account, but “parents or guardians are more than welcome to sign up on their own.” [REDACTED]
nice... im assuming i can also use the maps from the campaigns too?
I do not know, as I have never spent much time fiddling with the maps function. Might be something to experiment a bit with before trying in an actual game.
I have used the spectator view on a phone/tablet/laptop logged into my account like you are wanting to do and it has worked fine, I would recommend following Caerwyn's advice and experiment beforehand with the devices you plan to use in game. It is in alpha and does have some quirks but I find it very easy to use and is well worth the small amount of time it takes to learn how to use it well and to deal with the quirks.
My prefered method when a tv or other large display is available (we mostly play where this is the norm) the DM cast's a spectator's view tab of the map to it, we then share a tablet to one of the players logged in to their own account (we usually let the players decide) and they can either discuss where to move their character or move their own characters count squares and every one can use the large screen to focus on but when there is confusion they tend to hand the tablet off so the player can move their own character It seems to be working well so far. The pinch to zoom, combined with touch and drag plus the measuring tool make it so easy for players to both plan their battle on the fly and move their character without having to sit around a table with mini's, physical maps and spell templates (still my personal favorite way to play). I do not know if it speeds the gameplay up, but we get to play on the couch so to speak and an added bonus set up/teardown time for our use case has been reduced adding to more play time. I think it is a great tool and it is getting regular updates in both available maps, and the tool's available options.

If you've got a DM tier subscription, and you own adventures that they've implemented the maps for, you can use them in the Maps tool. Open a second tab in spectator mode on a TV or monitor, so you can show them with fog of war working.
