The idea of an archer who can shoot from multiple positions at once and teleport at will is just so freaking cool. I can’t wait to play an urban ranger/vigilante style Shadar Kai character with this concept. The guerrilla warfare style tactics you could employ... I guess I’ll have to be careful to avoid a full-on Ed Jlorde character...But yeah, fanboi ravings over. Not a CR fan (just never could get into it), but damn, Wildemount has some cool stuff!
Jokes aside, I agree. I'm rarely one for martial classes and the Ecko Knight is the first in a long while to make me thing "ooh spiffles". Whether I will ever play one remains to be seen but the mechanics and thoughtvisuals are interesting and sexy.

Dunno if the Echo Knight can get up to the sheer game-wrenching bull****ery that is a longbow Battlemaster, but man. It still kicks the crap out of the Arcane Archer.
How awful is that? That the Arcane Archer is the third-best fighter at best for using the longbow?

I had concerns about this as a DM, after rereading I caught that the Echo can only make Melee attacks.
Unfortunately your build won't work RAW, but as a DM I am relieved. The Echo Knight is quite strong, but since the Echo only has 1 HP it's always at risk. If you could give it a Long Bow and stick it behind cover....

Oof missed this, although as I’m reading it you could still use your normal ranged attacks, just not make extra attacks with your “Unleash incarnation.” Sad, but thanks for pointing this out.
Edit: thinking of how to make this work, could still use the shadow to kite around, then if anyone got on top of you, swap with your shadow, draw a rapier, attack action, unleash incarnation, action surge, attack action, unleash incarnation is a pretty decent nova to make the attacker sad he got on top of you. Not really as exciting as I would have wanted thematically, but eh, might still be okay.
Wait, where do you guys see the "only melee attacks?"
When you take the Attack action on your turn, any attack you make with that action can originate from your space or the echo’s space. You make this choice for each attack.
All this says is that when you take the Attack action, ANY ATTACK you make with that action can be in your space or the echo. Says NOTHING about ranged attacks or melee attacks only. literally any attack.

Ok, I know I'm late to the party here, but hear me out. No where on the Echo knight does it say it uses your weapon right? Just that your attack originates from you or it's position. So that being said, can you shoot your long bow from your position and have the echo move into melee and use the melee attack from UI? It only says that " when ever you take the attack action( not melee attack)you can make one additional melee attack from your echos position." Now maybe I just encite anarchy! But it seems like you can take the attack action( rather ranged or not)and have the echo make a melee attack. Thoughts?

If you are using a Longbow, you can only use a one-handed weapon with your other hand to make the melee attack with your Echo. IOW, the character shoots with Longbow (2 hands), lets go with one hand (no action of any sort needed), uses object interaction to draw the one-handed weapon, makes second attack with one-handed melee weapon. But one-handed, the most damage you could do is a 1d8, which is the same as the Longbow. Therefore, you get no benefit that is different (most of the time) than just shooting twice with your Longbow.
I think that the idea was to make an attack action to shoot with the longbow, and then use the echo to make an additional melee attack. Means sending the echo away, and IIRC there's a limited range for that. Alternatively, echo can slap people who approach whilst you shoot the people in the distance.

I think you mean "guerilla warfare tactics", although "gorilla warfare tactics" are probably quite fun, too.
But the echo archer sounds awesome. :-)
Hehe nice catch
Ha. Definitely druid territory.

It’s only for the unleash incarnation feature.
“You can heighten your echo’s fury. Whenever you take the Attack action, you can make one additional melee attack from the echo’s position.“
Echo*
Got you back for the rogue/rouge scenario 😂🤔

Agreed! this subclass is by far my favourite of the three (though the other two are pretty close seconds and thirds).
Okay I think an echo archery build should be a different subclass under rouge. Using an echo for espionage, buglery, and assassination would be epic.
This is a really cool idea! I might try to homebrew a version of this 🙂
