Hi, this is my first post so please cut me a little slack for the usual stuff.
I have scoured all of the 5e books looking for a shadow mechanic that I am positive I saw somewhere. It was this interesting shadow conjuring ability, kind of like the ability of the "Shadow" monster in the 5e MM, but whereas the Shadow in the MM has a feature that causes a creature killed by an attack to be raised as a shadow; the feature I saw, somewhere! was that the caster / user could turn a living target's shadow against them (the target) by turning it into a Shadow (monster) that would attack the targeted creature, and furthermore, the target would not have a shadow as long as that Shadow (monster) existed!
Maybe it was in an unearthed arcana article or something? I'm honestly about to go dig through all my 4e books too, just in case it's in there somewhere. I realize I remember enough of this feature to just make it up, but I really want to find the source on this, its becoming a kind of dangerous obsession for me, hopefully, some lovely person on this forum can point me toward the answer!
oh, thank the maker! yes, it absolutely is! phew! Thanks, Matthias, that was going to drive me nuts. I had checked his stat block but, just like when I ran the Strahd encounter last year, I forgot about his lair actions because they're on the previous page in the book! Though that time I did eventually remember the lair actions suddenly around round three, my players just thought it was a "final form" kind of thing so it actually worked out quite well, heh. In any case, thanks again Matthias.
For posterity, Strahd's Lair Actions are on p293 of Curse of Strahd.

Ah, Strahd von Zarovich's third lair action.
