so i'm curently trying to make a Vampire race for an upcoming homebrew only campighn were we make a race and class and i'm makeing a Vampire, but i'm haveing some trouble trying to figuer out how to make its Unarmed Strike, Children of the Night, Multiattack., Bite, Legendary Resistance, Regeneration, and its weaknesses. any tips on how to make them (especaly the regen) or will i also have to change up my class?
Yes, my advice is to not make Vampire a Race but design it as a Class. Any Race can become a Vampire if turned by another vampire, so lean into that and design those features like you would a class progression and reward players for leveling up in that class by developing their blood powers.
i thought about that but then i realized that then you could gain basicly doublr the benifits of a vampire if bit by one so im decided aginst it and am now making a race instaed so any tips you can think of?
That logic doesn't particularly make sense, if a person is already a Vampire, why would they get double the bonus from getting bitten a second time?
But yes, if you are dead set on making it a Race instead of a Class, scale back a lot of the power to align with the various skills, powers granted by a Race. Use the Bite Attack from the Lizardfolk race, maybe the Magic Resistance from the Yuan-ti Pureblood, and consider maybe a Misty Step-like power that the Shadar-kai or Eladrin have. Beyond that, don't try to mirror the Vampire stat block from the Monster Manual one-for-one. Link some of the higher powers to either age or adventure tier, so that they don't roll in until much later levels have been earned.

oh no i mean as in if i made it the class the race would be somthing else meaning it could be turned into a vampire agin technicly and what i have already is exstreamly scaled down but thats off trake lets say that the class is a vampire and the race is a home brew elf sub type that elf sub type technicly isn't a vampire so it can become a vampire still and then you gain the benifts of a vampire once agin. i only bring this up because the dm is rll technical about this stuff and would do to spite me even if i said it wouldent work because i'm technicly already a vampire he would overule it to spite me because he is just like that and i'm forced to do somthing vampire realted since thats the slot i drew (we drew sots to decide what to make) i appreaciate the idea and i will use it but i feel this exsplanation is needed to clear up the logic
I feel like this can technically be resolved by some sort of note saying "If you are this class, you are immune from various undead conversion abilities."
But again, if you are set on this as a Race, I'd go with my suggestions above. Otherwise you risk your DM rejecting your idea for being more powerful that a character race should be.
ah i didn't think of adding imune form undead conversion things i'll just do that thta helps out alot. btw do you have a sugestion on what kind of race i should make for it?
If Vampire is a class, I'm not sure what sort of race you need to homebrew, as just about any race is good depending on your plan. Is there a particular thing you wan to do that normal race options don't cover?

Have you considered just using the Dhampir lineage from Van Richton's Guide to Ravenloft and just changing the name? I think if you try creating a player character that has all of a vampire's stat block they'll be insanely over powered compared to everyone else but the dhampir gives a smattering of vampire abilities without being game breaking

If I understand the goal of this game they ae doing, they need to homebrew something to bring to the table. Just using normal stuff is sort of not fulfilling the assignment.

You do have a vampire race also available in the Planeshift MTG settings of Ixalan and Inistrad (link to pdf here: https://mtg.fandom.com/wiki/Plane_Shift), these were dnd versions of the magic the gathering game settings so come with lots of background info to draw on as well.

A race for PC's? I would not start them off with any major abilities. They start off at 1st level as a Thrall pretty much like Reinfeld but with 18 strength and they can be killed like any mortal. They don't start gaining abilities or immortality until they reach certain levels. Do you intend on playing them until 20th level? If so, then give them some great capstone ability like a lair power.
