I was just thinking about some random stuff and then a question popped into my mind, ...which class would be the wealthiest class in our current world and why?
Let's say any 4th Level Character build.
I am really looking forward to seeing your answers and why you think that specific character build would be the wealthiest.
And for extra credit, let's also add in any race to the same question.
In our world I think any of the full casting classes would be the wealthiest just for performing actual magic. Imagine a stage magician that can cast minor illusion over one that cannot, or or any of the potential crowd pleasing cantrips even that minor magic would get them fame and fortune especially if they kept magic as being not real.
I think Wizard with spells like Invisibility, Unseen Servant, Minor Illusion, Charm Person, Suggestion, Disguise Self, and others, they would be excellent at burglary.
As for race variant human, take the Wizard Ritual Caster feat, and you can just add two spells to your spell book for a total of 14, plus at level 4 you can take Magic Initiate, although I'm not sure what to pick for that.
I would agree with some kind of spellcaster would have the most potential. The kind would really depend on what their kit of spells are.
Healers could gain some but most likely would be denounced as some kind of charlatan despite being able to prove it. While it is generally overt it could lead to being captured, interrogated or otherwise other unseemly issues as less scrupulous groups try to find out why they have the ability.
Through entertainment would be a reasonably safe way to gain the wealth, most people chalking it up to effects or slight of hand tricks (much as many modern magicians are now).
Then their is the illegal options via various means, be it theft (or other direct subterfuge), interpersonal manipulation or general exploitation of legal loop holes.
As to race, humans would fare the best long term, teiflings, dragonborn, half-orcs and the like that don't appear 'human' physically, would have the hardest time keeping it all under wraps (though a disguise self spell would help significantly).

I can see a faith healer becoming incredibly wealthy as the pastor at one of those obscene mega-churches. Especially if the healing is actually real.
Raw materials for a plate of armour is 750 gp. Can use Fabricate to make the armour in 10 minutes as opposed to the many months it normally takes. That's 750 gp profit per cast. It's a 4th lvel spell. You be able to cast this multiple times per day, considering you can use higher slots too. Plate armour is always valued, especially if there is a war going on, so no problems in selling it and raw materials would not be hard to find (especially if you have the Guid Artisan background: you get special contacts as part of the guld for getting materials and buyers).
Now add in other spells like Creation to create tools to hire out for short periods (or to combine with other spells like Magic Aura and Charm Person to sell quickly for pure profit), rent out rooms in your Magnificent Mansion spell, and now add Wish to replicate any spell you could want like Resurrection without worrying over casting time or component costs...
Definitely Wizard. In a campaign I am in, there is an ongoing war so there is always need for armour, weapons etc. My level 13 wizard can easily make over 6000 gold per day.

Demo_N I think those are some nice spells to have and the Bard has access to all those, plus healing and way better skills, plus expertise.
While the Bard has the edge in Skills, the Wizard has the edge in number of spells, a level 4 Illusionist Wizard with ritual caster has 14 spells and 5 cantrips, whereas a Level 4 Bard with ritual caster has 7 spells, 3 cantrips, and 2 rituals.
Skills are something anyone can have, but magic is something only the DnD character could have, so that's why I think Wizard would have the edge.
And while they don't have healing the Wizards would mainly focus on crime so healing wouldn't be that necessary. And the Wizard does have spells that the Bard doesn't, like Levitate, Misty Step, Spider Climb, Rope Trick, etc.
While every character can have skills, we're just bringing one character's capabilities into our world. Spellcasting has a high "risk" of discovery. Easiest way may be the quietest way.
In which case, a bard or rogue may be best. Simply being a PC means a high stat spread, anything over 10 is better than the average person. Easiest way to earn a comfortable living would be to have good physical stats and expertise in acrobatics and athletics.
Athletes make bank, and a PC would be particularly exceptional. A Rogue would do but a Bard's charisma and performance skill would certainly help quite a bit.
Other class/athlete combos may do. A Barbarian rage-athlete could be popular in some sports. Monk boxer, that's a good one.
I didn't even think about athletes, a variant human with the mobile feat, has a speed of 40 feet, of they take 2 levels of Monk they'll get an additional 10 feet of movement, and if they multiclass and take 2 levels of Rogue they can dash as a bonus action, so, 50+dash action+dash bonus action=150 feet per round, 30 feet per second, that's about 20 miles per hour.

Add in expertise on athletics and/or acrobatics. Now you're not just a fast runner, you're a damn good footballer of either variety. Baseball, basketball. You could be a high demand player earning millions.

I’d say any dedicated healer. Cure Wounds, and Lesser Restoration would outdo any doctor in the modern world.

I was thinking a Bard with those same spells. And for the race, maybe a Aasimar or a Changeling.

Would depend on how one would gather the wealth.

So, Loswaith what would you choose?

A wizard with Blacksmithing proficiency.

Cyb3rM1nd, sure any high level caster could be insanely rich, but I was thinking more about the richest low level characters, max 4th level.

Legal: Cleric gets Augury and plays the stock market
Illegal: Arcane Trickster rogue goes on heists

Or a divine soul sorcerer. Makes themselves their own church and pretends to be Jesus!

For the race, I'll choose Tabaxi. They would make it big as athletes if they stuck to sprinting
