A blood hunter that’s Order of the Lycan can transform as a bonus action. Anyone else think that seems odd? Your body is literally reshaping itself, and you can still make an attack or whatnot? At the very least, I’d think the character should have disadvantage as their muscles are transforming. Yeah, blood hunters learn to master their nature, but I’d think that kind of transformation would at least be distracting.
Ask Matt Mercer, he designed the class. But considering a werewolf can change as an action and blood hunters have trained to use that same ability, it makes sense they'd be able to transform quicker.
Circle of the Moon Druids can use their shapechange as a bonus action. If a druid can turn into something like a snake or bird with a completely different form, then a blood hunter bulking up with hair and claws doesn't seem too ridiculous to happen with a bonus action.
Well, that explains where the rule comes from. Still seems wrong.
It's a fantasy game with magic not a simulation or based on reality.

I guess it's more for game mechanics & balance than realism. And yeah, I get that it's fantasy & magic — I just have a hard time imagining it, and the game is all about imagination.
The thing that gets me is how movies and books always seem to get it wrong by indicating it's a slow process. Come on, we've all played Altered Beast. Transforming from a humanoid to a wolf takes like five seconds tops.

It can't be wrong, it's been designed mechanically and narrative to be a swift transformation.

I guess that's how to picture it RAI.
