I was just interested in everyone's favourite spell combos they've ever come up with, be they optimal, wacky, or just downright funny.
Mine was in a campaign we were running, against a head honcho named 'The Shadow King'.
We were wondering across an icy plain, when we were attacked by a Roc. We were .....level 9, and not expecting to survive. I, Sniffy the Bard, was at very low HP. The Sorcerer was barely alive, yet still, against all odds, holding concentration on the Contagion spell. The Warlock was in the talons of the hungry big-bird himself. This is what happened:
The Warlock cast Fly on himself, and managed to escape from the Roc. I cast Command, and forced the Roc to land near me. The Roc, miraculously, failed its last save against Contagion, and the Sorcerer chose the 'Flesh Rot' option (Vulnerability to all damage and disadvantage on Cha saves). I cast Polymorph on the Warlock, who was already at least 100 feet in the air, into a mammoth. The mammoth fell 100 feet, flattening the Roc in a crushing bellyflop.
Needless, to say, the Roc died. The mammoth then reverted, leaving a confused, yet overjoyed, Warlock.
I was in a pbp (play by post here on dndbeyond) and we had an obviously inexperienced DM. The game didn't last long because the DM gave up soon after this encounter, but our second encounter was in a forest where 2 trolls suddenly appeared and started attacking us. We were a group of level 1 characters and I think there were 5 of us. Normally, according to the DM handbook, 1 troll is more than you should send after a group of 1st levels. I though we were dead for sure then all of a sudden our first level barbarian cast levitate on one of the trolls taking it completely out of the action.
Are you following this??
A first level barbarian (non-caster) cast levitate which is a second level spell that spell casters don't even get until level 3?? I was SOOO confused! Well I looked up his character in our campaign and he was an Air Genasi. They get levitate as a racial trait and can use it at 1st level. I had a pretty good laugh over that one. It was hilarious and on top of that, with us protecting this barbarian so he could keep concentration, we managed to defeat the second troll and win the encounter. Such a weird and unexpected encounter. Great fun!
Stand next to a ledge/cliff/bridge. Cast Hold Person/Hold Monster. Have anyone in the party cast thunderous smite, and instantly knock them off the cliff.

So, there's mine. What about yours?
Hi there! I'm a Christian musician based in Canada :)
Did the Warlock choose to lose concentration on Fly? Otherwise the Mammoth wouldn't have fallen.

He dropped concentration on Fly when I cast Polymorph, yes.
