So, I want to play a melee character that has a dark powerful blade (at least in his lore and background) that allows them to "steal" life from their enemies. I thought I could take vampiric touch or life transference but do u have any better ideas?
The Necromancer wizard's level 2 feature "grim harvest" lets you heal from killing enemies with leveled spells. I dunno how well it'd fit into a build, but it's certainl something to think about.

That's a fiend Warlock with a Pact of the Blade if I've ever heard of one. You'll get Dark One's Blessing at level 1, a magic weapon at level 3, and Vampiric Touch is a Warlock spell. Season the rest of your choices to taste, you'll have plenty of them to pick from.
(Fyi, Life Transference works in the opposite direction. It's a healing spell that hurts you when you use it.)
I made two homebrew items for one of the BBEGs the party will be facing. A sword and a dagger, that both do necrotic damage and give the wielder temporary hit points. Regular sword and dagger damage amounts, but changed to necrotic damage.
Thank you all for your feedback. You all had great ideas but I will propably use ChoirOfFire's Fiend warlock . I may multiclass to wizard for grim harvest and my race will propably be dhampir for the bite.

Dhampir is a race form Van Richtens that lets you gain some life (HP) when you bite another person.
Also, for higher levels, their is a magic item called Nine Life Stealer that does something sort of similar to what your going for.
Edit: Hexblade warlock lets you siphon energy from those you kill.
BoringBard's long and tedious posts somehow manage to enrapture audiences. How? Because he used Charm Person, the #1 bard spell!
He/him pronouns. Call me Bard. PROUD NERD!
