I want to eventually run a homebrew 5e space campaign and wondering if anybody knows some good conversions for it? Also I tried starfinder, wasn't my cup of tea in terms of its gameplay.
5e doesn't really do science fiction well. The conventions of 5e, and especially its character classes, are pretty deeply rooted in fantasy, which is why they basically made Space Fantasy instead of science fiction when they did Spelljammer.
Speaking of: look up Spelljammer. It's D&D...IN SPAAAAAACE. Sort of. The astral sea anyways, which is somehow both an extradimensional plane and synonymous with space despite that making no goddamned sense @_@

Carbon 2185. It’s a cool Sci fi game that I played a year ago and we got to level 3-4 and it was really fun. We switched back to DND and are doing a Fallout - like campaign wheee there are Grenades and guns but they are extremely rare. Carbon is just DND but in the future with guns. Weapons are guns, feats are augmentations, and there are classes. Hacker is wizard, Enforcer is fighter, Doc is cleric, and others. There’s also a new one, Investigator. Anyways, I’d try it.
Spelljammer is really fun, if you're into ships and seafaring. I would recommend not using the spelljamming rules found in Waterdeep: Dungeon of the Mad Mage. (Using those rules, it would take you over a century to get from Earth to the sun (as a 20th level spellcaster).) Spelljammer also hasn't been updated since 2nd Edition so the game system is wildly different.

If you're looking for something more akin to Star Wars, there's a homebrew of questionable quality that is literally Star Wars.

Look up Esper Genesis or Dark Matter ... 5e does space just fine.
Esper Genesis is a good Sci-Fi conversion of 5e. It's kind of like Mass Effect.
