Ive written something for a player who wants a solo player campaign focused around jewelcrafting. as the rules for crafting in the 2024 are ok, for normal stuff, he wanted something more involved without being too complicated. Maybe some other eyes on this can help me flesh it out abit? or maybe its good enough? let me know. :I
Jewelcraft
Gem Prices
Roughly, 1 lb of material makes 2,250 carats. As gems are weighted in carats, the Forgotten Realms does not use this method to appraise the value of gems, instead going by the gems' usefulness itself. The most valuable gems are used as spell components due to their rarity and purity. Other gems, not as rare or pure, are used in jewelry or powdered for spell components or even alchemical projects. We will use the prices of gems from the Dungeon Master’s Guide for price estimations. To figure a price for a particular piece of jewelry, we will use a base price for the value of the jewelry itself plus the value of the gems being used itself. The difficulty of the style will provide a modifier to the final end product. If the DC is reached or beaten, then the crafting of the piece is successful. If the DC roll fails, then the materials are wasted.
Jewelry Styles
Jewelry comes in many styles and materials. Style itself is simple enough, but what makes jewelry valuable is a combination of both style and materials used. Each style is listed below.
Simple Styles (DC 10, No Modifier)
This style of jewelry involves all basic styles of jewelry. Examples of this style are band rings, small chain necklaces, stud earrings, bangle bracelets, engraved brooches, and anklet bands. No gems are used in simple jewelry because that is what it is, simple.
Standard Jewelry (DC 15, Price of gem increase by 50%)
This style of jewelry is gemmed and has some type of flourish. Examples of this type are Birthstone rings, Gemmed Chain Necklaces, Chandelier earrings made with small gems, Chain Bracelets with gem links, and Gem linked anklets. Mostly, the difference between simple and standard styles is that one style is made with gems and not the other.
Intricate Jewelry (DC 20, Price of gem increase by 100%)
This style of jewelry visually sets itself apart from standard types of jewelry. Designed to be worn and shown off, intricate jewelry shows its complexity, craftsmanship, materials used to make it, and mostly, its purpose. Some examples of this are a diamond tiara a princess would wear, a king’s crown ladled with rare gems, a brooch designed in the shape of dragon with red rubies and obsidian, or even a ring made of diamond, lined with small square sapphires. Intricate jewelry relies on the visual design mostly, not what it is made of in general. Even a simple diamond ring can cost much more than standard jewelry, due to just the diamond alone.
Further Modifiers
These materials used will (or not) modify the price of a gem used in jewelry making further. A rarer material will also raise the DC of the item as well.
Common Materials (No DC modifier)
If the item is made with common materials, no price modifier. Common materials include leather, common bone, common types of metal, etc..
Uncommon Materials (+5 to DC)
An additional 25% can be added to the gem’s price if the jewelry is made with rarer types of metals. Such examples are gold, silver, platinum, and electrum.
Rare materials (+10 to DC)
An additional 50% can be added to the gem’s price if the jewelry us made with the rarest types of metal or special materials. Such examples could be Adamantine, Mithril, Dragonmetal, Cold Iron, Starmetal, Darksteel, Arandur, Thinaun, and Glassteel. Any material not listed is priced on the DM’s judgement within reason.

If this is to be a whole campaign built around this, you'll want to add additional stuff like:
