I have an idea for a spell that causes certain areas of a battlefield to be magically trapped such that if a creature enters a trapped space, they trigger a magical explosion of some sort. Is there any way I could determine which spaces are trapped fairly?
No, my question was more about how to randomly distribute the mines. My current idea is to roll a d20 when a creature lands on a square, and on a 1 they land on a mine, but this has the potential to do nothing, which wouldn't be very fun.

Clarification, you mean that a character entering the area needs to be able to find the "mine"?
Detect Magic would be one way, or follow the rules for Spike Growth with a Perception check against the spell DC of the caster.
