I know I can just drop a mini into my encounter and use the normal creature stat block, but sometimes, the artistic license given to making a particular miniature has led me to want to more accurately represent the model with a matching stat block. With that in mind, I had a go at Reaper's Fire Giant Jailor.
(not my paint job)
Obviously he doesn't have a sword. I like the idea of a ranged melee weapon on the chain whip. I kept most of the stats the same, but made some modifications. I kept the armor class at 18 even though he isn't wearing plate mail armor. I changed the greatsword to a hammer and lowered the range to 5 feet, but kept the damage after switching it to bludgeoning. I added the chain whip with a range of 20 feet, which is pretty far, and lowered the damage versus the hammer, but added the entangling functionality from the otyugh (no save to avoid it). I left the rock attack as original.
Do you think this is a good modification? Also, do you think he stays at CR9 with what I've done? Looking at the image, do you see any other missed opportunities? Thanks for your constructive criticism.

I would say that the chain does bludgeoning damage b/c it is not sharp. Injury caused is to to force of impact alone, unlike a normal whip, which is causes piercing damage b/c the end is moving a supersonic speed.
Ok. I see now. Slashing is good. You might also add that using the chain whip against an opponent 5 feet away causes it to be an attack at disadvantage. Luckily, the Jailor still also has the hammer. If you intend an encounter with multiple fire giants in a large enough room, you might add the Mobile feat to the Jailor so that he can kite enemies with the chain, raising the CR by 1.

Make sure you specify that while the giant is grappling a creature, it can not attack with it chain whip, or at least not grapple other targets.
I think CR 9 is just fine all things considered.

My bad. I guess it wasn't visible in the photo, but this is the reason I had picked piercing for the damage. Maybe slashing?
