In the "Modifier Type" drop down menu, choose "Weapon Type" then choose the type of weapon you want it to be. I explored my own homebrew weapons just now and do not believe there is a hard setting for Simple or Martial weapons, maybe it is just based on its property, but I could be wrong.
That's why I suggested choosing the weapon type. That should let it fall under the jurisdiction of simple or martial weapon based on your choice of the kind of weapon it is, barring level restrictions.
I think you mean you want to classify it as being a kensei/monk weapon, rather than a martial weapon.
For a kensei weapon, you don't need to specify this in the weapon properties; it becomes a kensei weapon when you choose it with your character subclass ability. NB I've not actually tried this, but can't see why it wouldn't work.
For a regular monk weapon, you need to base it off something that is already a monk weapon. For example, I homebrewed a weapon and based it on a mace (although it had little resemblence to a mace, it was sadly about the closest match).
I’m trying to create a weapon and I want to classify it as a martial weapon for my monk to be able to wield as his kensei weapon...
Can anyone help?
Go to the "Modifier" section.

The martial or simple weapon properties are not present in the weapon properties section of the home brew stuff.
Choose Proficiency as the modifier type, and then choose Martial Weapons?

It gives the character proficiency with martial weapons, not makes it martial weapons

Going that route doesn’t have simple or martial options. I’ve already tried that

I tried to build a pistol off of the dagger but I still can't pick it as my kensei weapon...
Maybe repost in bugs & support area?
I’ll try that... Thank you
