the monster manual give an okay way to handle lycanthropy, but I think I have a better version. when the one affected by lycanthropy rolls a 1 for a ability check, save, or attack roll, they must make a D.C. 5 charisma saving throw. on a success, boost the D.C. by 5 the next time they roll a 1. on a failiure, they become an N.P.C. controlled by the D.M. every turn, the person can make a charisma saving throw of the same D.C. that was used before. on a success, they turn back normal. on a fail, the D.C. gets boosted by 5 the next turn. if it gets to 35, well, the form is permanent, or at least until someone uses wish.
I like the escalating DC, because that makes a transformation likely each session. I presume that the DC resets after a long rest.
However, I think the provocation for a save should be more specific. Trigger for a save should be something instinctive and emotional, like being frightened, severely angered, or starved.
Also, permanent loss of control seems kinda harsh, especially since it doesn’t matter whether you succeed or fail the save. Perhaps it should be a long time limit, like 24 hours or longer?
