Hello to all my fellow DM's and players out there.
I would appreciate some feedback from you all about a player in one of my games that had unknowingly made himself 2 home brew item's that have have broken the game.
He is playing a level 18 Paladin.
Item One: Crown.....
Attributes:
Manifest Holy Avenger at will as a free action.
Effect of Belt of Fire Giant Strength (set STR 25)
Yeah, big issue is that you're essentially packing together a series of magic items, which overcomes the limits to attuning. You've got a holy avenger, belt of fire giant's strength, a ring of protection, 7 feats, 6 Ioun stones, etc.
I am having a hard time understanding how this is unknowing. But that aside, feedback
As pointed out, this bypasses the rules on attunement.
No published artifact have the number of powers on this level.
Most of the published artifacts have downside; neither items has any.
To be realistic, this isn't a case of tweaking an item a little bit and its just fine. In the case of the crown, allowing it to only have ONE affect, like summoning a holy avenger is probably ok, but nothing else. At best, three affects for three attunement slots. The cloak is worse in many respects mechanically. Sure you can have the +1 ring of protection affect for a cost of a attunement slot, but resilient on all stats isn't realistic.
Honestly, this is a "No, these are beyond the boundaries of what is fair and balanced for a player to have." But I am sure I missing something here in the context.
The only way I would allow those items is if the Players were leveled up beyond 20th level and preparing to fight truly Cosmic Entities that had been homebrewed for a truly Epic Level game. As a counter point in regards some of the item powers and the way they get around attuninh, I'd point out that the Axe of the Dwarvish Lorss is somewhat like that as well. But overall, they really are just a bit too much for D&D 5e.

Cheers.

What is preventing you from saying no?
