For those unfamiliar, Hokuto Shinken is a martial art from classic anime series Fist of the North Star. Google will provide all the help you need. But in game, I was planning on the prerequisites being a BAB of +10, and having Improved Unarmed Strike, Great Fortitude, Iron Will, and All-Out Attack(I think this is a homebrew feat). Every level in Hokuto Practicioner will also grant a level in monk, regardless of your lawfulness, but as a caveat, it requires twice the XP to level up, and you still only gain feats, skill points, hit dice, and other such bonuses as though you had leveled up once. You still gain class features, base attack bonus, and save bonuses from both, though. In addition, it increases your CR by 1.5 instead of 1 per level. The class' HD is 1d10, it gains 6 skill points + int mod, and of course, these replace what monk would grant, rather than stacking. Now, because Monk will be applying great bonuses to ATK and saves, the mage ATK bonus will be used for this class, and all saves will have poor progression. Now, for the big one: The class features. I was planning on having this class being comparable to a psionic one. You'll have a steadily increasing pool of Power Points to spend on techniques, but rather than having however many techniques known with level progression, you could instead spend 500XP to learn any technique your level allows. Each technique would be given an Ability Level and Power Point cost appropriate for it, and based on one from the show. The other class features would be stuff like "Omae Wa Moe Shinderu", which would triple the times per day you could utilize Quivering Palm techniques, as well as other features that would likely grant fast healing and/or damage reduction. I would also allow something along the lines of an ability that costs 10HP and allows you to pick a known technique and make a concentration check DC 20 - your wisdom modifier + technique level + the number of power points the technique costs, and if you pass the DC you use the technique for free, but failure dazes you until your next turn. Suggestions? Feedback? Critiques? I implore you to tell me what's wrong, right, or missing from this class. And even if you're unfamiliar with Hokuto Shinken and unwilling to acquaint yourself, tell me if this sounds broken or not. I need the feedback BADLY. Especially since I'll be trying to playtest this soon. So don't hesitate to praise my work or lay into me like a mouthy 50s housewife. Cheers!
3.5, and I'm afraid I haven't made a page for it yet. I need a very clear picture of what I'm making before I move ahead. Unless link meant something else, in which case I'm lost.

I'm useless at 3.5 and that's what link meant. I can't help you. Sorry.

Ouch. Not even 3.0? I could make do with 3.0. If not, I'd appreciate if you could share the thread with users who might be interested. Thanks in advance!

I'm only proficient in 5e, but a lot of the other regulars go way back. I'm pretty much only good for grammar-checking (which I would be happy to do once you have something to check); for example, that due up there should be a do.

Huh. Well, as I'm sure you've found, my grammar is usually rather passable, but I do appreciate the offer. But if you know anybody who knows about the show, works in 3's variants, or especially both, sending them here would be beyond appreciated.
P.S: I must be blind, because I skimmed the thread twice and not one "due" appeared. Apologies.

yeah, a website pretty well dedicated to dnd 5e is not the best place to look for guidance for something like this in particular. I will be honest in saying that I feel I have come across monk prestige classes that are similar enough flavor/gameplay that you might want to dig through those first and just modify a pre-existing.

"I have found the answer to the meaning of life. You ask me what the answer is? You already know what the answer to life is. You fear it more than the strike of a viper, the ravages of disease, the ire of a lover. The answer is always death. But death is a gentle mistress with a sweet embrace, and you owe her a debt of restitution. Life is not a gift, it is a loan."

Two questions: what edition is this and where is the link?

That's about the last place I'd look. Thank you, my man.

Yeah, compelling arguments. Think I should delete the thread?
Na, still might get a hit anyways.

Alrighty then.
