I am not a big fan of ki features that consume more than 1 or 2 ki unless it is a power that lasts long term like Astral self features.
The monk already has several problems managing its few resources, and creating powers that consume them in one turn are not ideal.
The main problem is that the monk is too dependent on ki. Without ki it loses almost all of his abilities. Not like spellcasters who at least can do a lot of harm with some cantrips, or the rogue who has infinite sneak attacks. The barbarian has little chance to use rage, but at least rage lasts for the whole fight.
Good afternoon, here to get some thoughts on things
1 Elemental monks get a 3d10 for spending 2 ki points, if you add 1 ki point it adds a 1d10, there is no limit. 21d10 here i come. This is neat
Also, anyone else thing elemental monks get only like 2 unique abilities?
One more thing, Monks can catch bullets, this is fascinating
Well, depending on how you read it or the DM adjudicates it, you can spend all that Ki and if they make the save they take half. (73 avg damage failed save 36 avg damage successful save). and all your Ki is gone or you can spend one Ki, FoB for four attacks for 4d10+20 (assuming you maxed Dex at this point) for 42 avg damage if all hit, and you still have 19 Ki to use later
I would think the way it is written you spend the 2 Ki, they make the save and they take 3d10, and then you use the extra Ki to add damage. But I can see a DM say you have to declare how many Ki you want to spend before the save is made.
Neat, but seems a waste to me unless it’s the BBEG at the end of a campaign and you think it will take them down.
