Either an Ancient Bronze Dragon or an Ancient Silver Dragon. Bronze because of the swimming speed, Silver because of the cold immunity. (I get frostbite in 60 degree weather. I am not joking.) Both can shape change into humans which would be nice. But the best part is being able to transform into a giant dragon. I am still trying to figure out how to do that in real life and so far none of the science experiments or demonic rituals seem to be working.
3pp: Proven as in actual played, Humblewood, very well done setting, enjoyed it and it's initial campaign out of the box I KS'd the Humblewood Expansion which has been fun.
Haven't played, but have really enjoyed reading it and want to put into play somehow Druids: Secrets of the Primal Circle by Homebrew Games LLC/Matthew Yarro. It's a Druid books, gives some more circles, a new class the Dire Druid that's sort of a darker take on the Druids relationship with the Wild, but of new Druid magic and monsters that specifically antagonize things Druids would want to protect, a setting that can stand alone or be relatively easy to port into many D&D worlds.
I don't consider "other games" 3pp, but the tone of Druids: Secrets of the Primal Circle seems appropriate to mention I've been curious about the game Trophy Dark and it's companion books Trophy Gold and Trophy Loom.
QUESTION: Since I was messing around with a hater thread, this came to mind to lighten the mood. What's your fantasy D&D table of famous people, living dead, who are not already known D&D players? Me, off the cuff, I'd want to play with Prince and Thomas Haden Church. Just two players, we alternate DMing in a world we collectively homebrew. Maybe we'd have Robin Williams and Aubrey Plaza over at different times for a one shot, but I sense both might be game wreckers.
Honestly… I’m with Wysperra. I’ve got no desire to play with a bunch of celebrities. I’d rather play with people I actually kind of know. Plus, can you imagine trying to teach D&D to some of these people? Not to mention the amount of drugs many of them were on that would inhibit their mental ability.
However… I would not be totally against playing D&D with the cast of the Hobbit.
However… I would not be totally against playing D&D with the cast of the Hobbit.
Maybe not all of them at the same time. Can you imagine trying to play D&D with 14+ people at the table?
Initially you only allow two in (Gandalf and Frodo, duh) but then they ask if their two dwarf friends can play. And, since the table is pretty light, you say yes. And you have a great time playing and telling stories together, so when they ask if their other two dwarf friends can play, it feels right to say yes again. And then, before you know it, you've got a wizard, a hobbit, and 13 dwarves in your house, all rolling dice.

This is more asking whether this is a good idea. I am currently DMing 3 level 2 players (rogue wood elf, forest gnome circle of the moon Druid, red dragonborn life cleric who claims he’s an undead) who may try to tame an owlbear, and may try to tame a giant spider, and may try to tame a young green dragon. (I am too generous of a DM. They already have 2 oxen and 4 wolves.) I’m thinking once they get to level 5 and complete the main story, they’re going to get a message from a god from the dragonlance setting. (The current setting is the forgotten realms) This god will ask them to help defend against the armies of Tiamat, and in exchange, they’ll promise a blessing. If they accept, they’ll basically be teleported smack dab in the Shadow of the Dragon Queen campaign. I don’t know if this is a bad or good idea, so I’m asking people who may be more experienced with plot hooks.

I'd say Silver Dragon. Mostly because of how elegant they are. Their ability to fly. Use magic. Over all good feeling they provide.

Wow, just lump assuming that they're on drugs? I mean if this were the 80s, sure. But I don't think many of them are into drugs as big as it was in the 80s. Yes, some naturally. But one of your co-workers is probably as likely to be into drugs, as well, though may not be obvious.

So. Here's the the problem with your idea. The Red Dragonborn.
If you know Dragonlance... and the history with Red Dragons.
Your Dragonborn is going to be in a world of trouble trying to explain how they're not evil.
Especially if they continue to claim they're undead.
There's no way the "good guys" are going to not keep the Dragonborn in prison. :)

Would having the deity change him into a metallic or gem Dragonborn change this? If so, I’ll have a talk with my player and see if he’s ok with changing his dragon type.

Well a few things to consider - if you're the DM for the game, the player can remain a Red Dragonborn - but the forces of Paladine would not trust him (up until some point where they've proven themselves). So it could make for some good RP - of how this Red Dragonborn is trying to assure them he's on the good side. Maybe make their Social interaction DCs a little higher (like if they barter for something, maybe standard Persuasion Check is like DC 12 - for them, make it DC 13 or 14 - to show that distrust). Once they prove themselves, it all behaves normally. Some players may be up for that kind of interaction if they're heavy into RP.
Otherwise, if they wanted to keep their fire beath, could say that when they land in Krynn - their scales have turned Brass (which is the metallic side of fire breathing dragons).
But I'd definitely speak with the player.
Curious why begin with Level 5 before bringing them into Dragonlance? The Dragonlance adventure does a really good job from level 1 and bringing the party up to speed how Dragonlance works through the adventure and NPCs who you can engage with. At level 5 they'd probably already be above where the adventure actually starts (just going to say skirmish to avoid spoilers, should make sense to anyone who has the adventure). You could raise the anty, I suppose during that. But I've played two sessions so far (each is about 5 hours long) and I think we just hit level 3 in the Dragonlance adventure.
This particular player is not very active in rp encounters, so I don’t know about that first option.
Aren’t brass Dragonborn ‘corrupted’ in dragonlance? Wouldn’t that make them trust him less.
I will.
Two reasons. We’re doing LMoP (ends at level 5) right now, and I want to continue to higher levels for their characters to teach them the rules (they’re all new players).

This is pretty much taking place during War of the Lance, but in another region.
So Dragons, over all, are still barely returning. Magic is still a thing. However, Clerics and Paladins (any power derived from the gods) is unheard of at the very beginning of the adventure.

I know that. When I asked if brass Dragonborn are corrupted, I knew about the plot, but didn’t want to spoil the plot.
There’s a hook in the beginning for clerics and paladins, and pact of the celestial warlocks.

And no worries, didn't take it as rude, and I certainly don't mean to be rude if that's how I sound. Just trying to give friendly advice. :)
It’s fine. I was just planning to dump them into the, how do I say this with no spoilers, ‘Survivor camp’ after the god tells them what already happened before then.
It’s fine. I was just planning to dump them into the, how do I say this with no spoilers, ‘Survivor camp’ after the god tells them what already happened before then.
Should work. :)
And all things considered - it just depends on how much you want to lean intro Dragonlance's actual lore. For example, there's no Dragonborn in Dragonlance (they'd probably assume they're Draconians, which would not go well for the party). However, if you wanted Dragonborn or Tieflings, or other such races that don't exist to actually exist in your world of Dragonlance, you could naturally, as the DM make it so! So no matter what, it could work regardless, without doing all the hoops I mentioned before! Just do it and roll with it. :)
I admittedly sometimes become very "focused" because of my love of the Dragonlance series of books. I need to reign myself back and be like, "Make the world however you want it! Dragonborn? Tiefling? Aasimar? Make them a thing if you need or want to!" :)
