hello! I need help with a blade singer that I am building for rise of Tiamat. I rolled absurdly lucky with 16, 16, 16, 16, 15, 14, so I am looking to multiclass, most likely a two level dip in paladin for two weapon fighting style and the ever awesome Divine smite, using wizard slots as high grade fuel. My race is either elf or one of the new races from ebberon that use dragon marks (such as the mark of passage human) as my DM has given permission for me to use any race.
any suggestions would be helpful, and feel free to put any of your own ideas in the comments
If you're going damage and can use any race for bladesinger, go Aasimar - the Protector subrace. Why? Because the 1 minute of flight and +level radiant damage per turn will really power up your nova attacks and let you go melee with flying enemies since you're a melee character build.
Tenser's Transformation spell will be an amazing spell for the +4d10 force damage per turn (it's +2d10 force per attack) plus advantage to all melee attacks plus 50 hit points. Since you will have low health this will really help. As such, don't rely on too many concentration spells. But, Hold Person/Monster will be a must to try for that auto-crit divine smite. Haste is a good spell when dealing with pesky minions and wanting to save on smites.
Warcaster feat + Booming Blade cantrip. Helps either keeps the enemy near you or does very sizeable damage to it - or you can instead go with Sentinel but I find that a bit lacking by comparison - the damage is better and you can easily chase an enemy.
Misty Step is a must, helps get you close to enemy or get away when surrounded.
Shield spell for obvious reasons. Whether you take Mage Armour will decide on if you're starting with Paladin or Wizard. Personally I think starting Wizard and going Mage Armour is best but there are pros and cons. However, mage armour is better than light armour - it's essentially equal to +2 leather armour (or +1 studded leather). Magic items can also boost your AC, and since you're primarily a wizard the wizard skills and saving throws may be best, but it's up to you. Mirror Image is also a very useful spell for helping you to stay safe.
The 9th level spell Time Stop is useful. This will let you apply buffs to yourself like Fire Shield or Tenser's Transformation without losing turns in combat.
Your Paladin dip should be no more than 2 levels to get Divine Smite. Why? Because you will want 9th level spells as a Wizard. There's one that makes you immune to all damage and you're going to want Wish. For 8th level get Demiplane. For 7th get Crown of Stars, There's also the Fire Shield spell. During downtime you can, each day, use Demiplane spell, then Wish to replicate 8th level Glyph of Warding to store buff spells. My char had a month of downtime and had a buff room: so for that one special big battle he could cast Demiplane, walk into the buff room and come back out with all the benefits of: Tenser's Transformation, Crown of Stars, Haste, Mirror Image, Enlarged by Enlarge/Reduce, Mirror Image, and Fire Shield. This meant he had AC 35 (40 with shield), he dealt +2d10 force damage plus +1d4 on every hit, could use bonus actions every turn for 4d12 radiant damage, had Fire Resistance and dealt cold damage to anyone hitting him, had 50 temp HP, advantage to his attacks, could have 3 attacks auto-miss him. And still had all his other spell slots, including 9th level. It's a long time to set it up and only used once but for that one battle you're insanely powerful.
I also recommend Resilient Con feat - you're up in melee a lot and you must anticipate being hit. As a Bladesinger you're going to be reliant on buff spells. With this, Warcaster and the bonus from Bladesong you should never need to worry about losing concentration on a spell plus you need the Con bonus for health. The Tough feat will also be useful, for the same reason, and there's an argument to be made for the Durable feat as well. Wizard health is literally the worst type. As a Paladin you'll have some healing but your spell slots are better used for Shield and Smites so the bonus to hit dice healing on short rests is good but this depends on how many encounters you have in a day.
All I got now, hope it helps.

Alright. So I did make this multi class. My DM made us use standard array +1. I picked high elf to get that dex and int boost and my stats ended up looking like this: DEX:16, INT:16, CHAR:13, STR:13, CON:10, WIS:8. I named her Arya Dröttningu from Eragon.
So on paper I was barely able to squeeze this chick out with the stat array I had available and my DM almost didn't let me do it.
So the first 2 levels were spent as a typical paladin. She's 5th level now and is Pal2/Wiz3. She uses studded leather +1and has a resting ac of 17. When she sings its 20 and when she uses shield spell its 25. I generally don't dual wield as I like to keep an open hand for shield since my con is so low. BUT!!! Last session I cast shadow blade, and used green flame blade stacked with 2nd level divine smite for 6d8+3 damage in one hit. I could have pulled my short sword and two weapon fought, but again shield is integral.
Later levels she'll have access to tenser's transformation. Couple that with a +x rapier or shortsword and GFB she will be able to pull off, with advantage mind you, 2d12+ 9d8+ 10 per hit. Let's say you'd rather run max shadow blade over tensure's, its 13d8+10 per hit.
The biggest challenge I have with Arya is her low health. Lay on hands, access to cure wounds, and high ac mitigates that, but as it is I'm in search of a amulet of health even though those are kinda rare.
It's a fun build however and exactly what I pictured as a battle mage in my mind especially when I can use spell slots to block damage and add my intelligence modifier to melee damage at later levels.
Remember that Paladin doesn't have the two-weapon fighting style. It does have dueling (+2 to damage) which is more valuable because Bladesinging doesn't work if you have two weapons.
That is almost the maximum in multi-classing while actually retaining functional stats. It's a good thing your DM gave you +1 to points buy or you'd have been starting on 9 constitution.
Myself, I'd probably have gone with the standard Sorcodin. Half-Elf, starting 16/8/14/10/10/16. First two levels as Paladin, then the remaining as Divine Soul Sorcerer.
That said, a Protector Aasimar would have been interesting too.
Paladin bladesingers can still engage in two weapon fighting as long as both weapons are light finesse weapons. The standing rule is that using two hands to make an attack ends bladesinging ie: heavy weapons, versatile options on long swords ect, and almost all range weapons except the hand crossbow.
They won't get to add their dex mod to the bonus attack for engaging in two weapon fighting, BUT they will be able to smite three times with 1.Attack, 2.Extra attack, and 3.bonus action two weapon fighting attack. Stack those smites with 2d12 each hit from tensure's and your dps really starts to climb. The extra attack comes from either bladesinging if multiclassing in wizard like myself, dipping at least to 5 if multiclassing with sorcerer, or bard college of swords subclass. Also, sorcadins won't have access to tensure's transformation.
Points buy +1 would've been much better lol. But he gave us standard array +1. It still worked out though lol so I cant complain too terrible much.
I peeped the sorcadin build myself. It's pretty busted with meta magic, smiting, and the cleric spell list. But there's just something about tensure's transformation that I love for a martial character.
Next pally build I make I thought about going yuan-ti pureblood for the magic resistance and multiclassing with sorcerer for the staple, or bard so I can get tensure's transformation, find greater steed, and simulacrum through magical secrets. Giving up bladesinging would be very sad though.
You can use a bonus action to start the Bladesong, which lasts for 1 minute. It ends early if you are incapacitated, if you don medium or heavy armor or a shield, or if you use two hands to make an attack with a weapon.
I can see where you're coming from with that interpretation.

Honestly, looks really strong since your stats allow for it pretty easily. It also grabs minor healing, which is nice.

thanks so much for all the suggestions
I will dip two levels of paladin and get tenser,s ASAP, but I think I want the elven accuracy feat so I will not go aasimar.
also rise of Tiamat is a time bomb, so I will not have enough time to create a buff room
