Sometimes a Nat 1 tells a better story than a Nat 20 ever could.
Kildaar Mystan is originally from Whitestone. He is a dragonborn, he has no tail and has a goldish hue of skin, with blue eyes. He appears similar to a Ravenite Dragonborn. He is tall and carries a glaive as well as a longsword. These appear scored, like they have seen a good deal of use.
Kildaar used to be a soldier, joined a group that was more mercenary than soldier. He left their company after he determined they had no honor. He had achieved the rank of sergeant before he left. He now fights for his order, he has joined the Order of Pelor in Whitestone. A cleric of the order told him of their ways and he serves now in their defense. He uses a glaive and is deadly in close combat. During the defense of his region, one battle that he fought in had a fire giant cornered in a cave. After studying the spoils of that particular exploit, he learned how to craft runes in order to help his skills in fighting.
Kildar has received the summons to meet his fellow brothers and sisters in his order, he awaits word of whom they are to defend their town from or, is this another drill?
Backstory: Neritheris, or Neri to friends and family, liked to explore along the coastline as a child, finding many grottoes, delves, and underwater caves. His knowledge of secret places along the coast lent itself to his pursuing a career as a smuggler. On one of his coastal trips he found a clay urn half buried in a seldom used grotto. Inside was a scroll and a small statuette. It outlined a pact that required the statuette be broken in exchange for arcane power.
Neri had heard of such pacts and found the statuette to be quite fragile, and before he even realized he had done it, he was staring down at the two pieces of the statuette held in his hands. The elusive Darklord, Azalin Rex became his patron that day as much of his power was restored from being trapped inside of the statuette. The pact and resulting arcane power was to be a reward for Neri who was given free reign to do as he please.
Neri met a cleric of Pelor on the return trip and shared many conversations on the voyage. During these sessions Neri asked about whether all warlocks or pacts were evil. And after being reassured that his soul was not lost forever, Neri decided to use his newfound powers to aid the cause of Pelor. After some time gaining spells and invocations, Neri was rewarded with a pact boon, a little sprite named Esper. Neri and Esper are now adventurers but continue to aid Pelor and his church.
"A rightful place awaits you in the Realms Above, in the Land of the Great Light. Come in peace, and live beneath the sun again, where trees and flowers grow."
— The message of Eilistraee to all decent drow.
"Run thy sword across my chains, Silver Lady, that I may join your dance.”

Backstory: Valamir is the elder twin of the two children is parents had, his brother Norcan being younger by five minutes. His parents were both famous adventures, one a bard and the other a holy paladin. His father Tibern Onc was an exiled Tiefling noble while his mother was an aasimar on a quest for her God. Due to their fame Valamir led a very comfortable life as a child and grew to himself as the next great hero along with his brother.
Both of them were trained from a young age, this revealing that Valamir had magical abilities granted from the celestial blood of his mother. In order to control his magical abilities, Valamir was sent to learn from other members of his parents old adventuring group, spending spending majority of his teens learning. Upon reaching adulthood he began his own journey to bring good to the world.
Arrkus never had it easy, he grew up poor, and his mother couldn't work because of a disability in her legs. He knew that there was problems with where he grew up, and he wanted to change that. While he grew up, he studied at the church of the Godfather, and started to realize that he could worship Pelor, and maybe he could grant his mother her legs back. The Arkkus became a politician, he wanted to try to fix the world that he grew up in. That didn't work out, he's never been the most charismatic person. He almost gave up, but he realized, he wasn't getting listen too by the voters, but he was getting listened to in church. He began to work within the church to shelter the needy and heal the broken.
I'm late to the party as it looks like there are already at least 6 others here. Forever DM here who thinks it would be fun to play for once. I've never tried the dice roller or used the PBP forums before so accepting me would be taking a chance that I'm too tech illiterate to play along.
I had an idea for an older rogue that doesn't look like he should be a rogue... sort of a traveling herbalist and outdoorsman but with a lot of skills and knowledge acquired over the years.

Name: Rattinger
Race: Human (variant)
Class: Rogue Scout
Background: Hermit
Alignment: NG
Rattinger ran with a pack of bandits in his youth. While he never had the cruel streak of the gang's leadership, he also never stood up to them or raised his voice when the group crossed the line from thievery into malicious mischief and terrorism. His life changed when the group accosted a lone traveler... who happened to be a powerful sorcerer. Rattinger was the lone survivor and was questioned by the mysterious traveler before being released. The figure made Rattinger swear an oath that he would never again take up arms against the commonfolk, never again engage in wanton cruelty and villainy, never again draw a blade on a defenseless stranger... or the sorcerer would know and would come to claim him. That was more than 20 years ago. Rattinger stayed true to his reform - at first due to his absolute belief that the sorcerer would come for him if he ever went back on his oath, and later because it was simply in his nature... had he not fallen in with some wicked friends he would have never gone down a villainous path to begin with.
Rattinger travels the roads and trails between rural and frontier settlements, collecting herbs and items from the fields and forests and battering them with the common folk. He also keeps his ears and eyes open for signs of bandits, goblins or other threats and warns other travelers of unsafe paths and ambush sites. To see him, one might think him a ranger, or even a druid, before suspecting he was a rogue.

Name: Mordai
Race: Levistus Tiefling
Class: Zealot Barbarian
Background: Far Traveler
Alignment: CG
Brief story: Mor quickly learned that most people did not really see him, only his horns and tail. Of necessity, he learned to cope with the persecution in various ways - by being too strong and too tough for most people to bother with, by avoiding contact with "civilized" people as much as he could, and finally by protecting himself with his innate magic. He refused to hide or disguise himself. One day when leaving a small town after buying some provisions, he stopped to listen to a preacher holding forth on the radiance and glory of Pelor, and was intrigued. The priests did not persecute him - passing his first test - and he decided to remain with their temple for now, and learn if he could acquire some of that radiant power for himself.
Arthos spent his life as a weapons smith. He had a great family; a lovely wife and a wonderful son. One day, he was commissioned to make a specific ceremonial dagger for a mysterious stranger. He was hesitant at first, but the stranger paid upfront and included a premium for him to deliver the weapon in person to the stranger in the near big city. Upon completing the dagger, Arthos decided to pack up the family to take a free days in the city after making the delivery.
On the way, the stranger appeared in the road and used mind control to cause his wife to turn the dagger on Arthos and then herself. Their son, Niklaus, was able to escape and turned to dark magic, using evil to seek vengeance. Arthos survived, but barely. Upon learning of his wife’s fate and his Son’s poor choices, he prayed to the Dawn Father for help to stop his son and hopefully redeem him. The help he received was a transformation into a divine agent, the transformation unlocking previously unknown psionic power. He now scours the realms for his son, thwarting evil wherever he goes.
Edit: I plan on going with the Clan Crafter background but would be willing to change to haunted one based on the setting and DM feedback.
Loa is the second child in a large noble family. As is tradition, the second child gets sent out in service of the church, to remove competition for inheritance. While officially disowned by the family, a close association is still maintained, often with the disowned child returning to fulfil clerical duties for the family.
Loa was a stalwart of faith, however, his anger often got the best of him, and the church found his service was better suited outside of the clerical lines. As such, he became a watchman and warden of faith. Ensuring obedience to the precepts of Pelor in his followers, and occasionally acting as an enforcer for those who refused to listen to the wisdom of the Dawn Father.
Loa's upbringing as a child, and his time in training with the clergy, means that he is well educated. However, he has a very short fuse and very quick to anger. During one of his rages, he began to manifest unusual abilities. Some even considered them to be miraculous. People considered him touched by the gods, and his status amongst the ranks of Pelor's servants is currently on the rise. Despite the newly found attention, Loa's goal is still simply to serve, and ensure that the work of Pelor moves forward unimpeded.

Gareth Bryne was a simple man, content to ply his smith's trade in his bucolic hometown...until the goblins came. Having learned how to defend himself from his highly-disciplined uncle Tam, he immediately grabbed the nearest blade and leapt to the defense of his family and friends. Managing to defend his own home, Gareth hunted the other goblins attacking elsewhere in the village, but there were many. Suddenly, they retreated--and Gareth followed. Heavily wounded and exhausted, he sneaked through the bushes and saw the local lord arguing with the goblin leader! All this death and destruction, and for what? Betrayed by the one supposedly protecting his village, Gareth let out a small despairing cry. He was overheard--and seen--by the traitorous leader, who sent the remaining goblins after him.
Somehow Gareth managed to escape, his long strides outdistancing the smaller creatures, but his reprieve was short-lived, as his picture was posted by the morning as a traitor to the crown. Leaving home with what possessions he could find, Gareth searched for a new life far, far away. Stumbling across the clergy of Lathander preparing for a great war against truly fearsome monsters, he found a cause he could believe in, and he offered his services. Plying his skills as weaponsmith and cook, he spent most of his time supporting those who truly did the fighting, but his weapons were highly in demand due to their high quality and the intricate calligraphy etched into the blades, shafts, and pommels. Learning the art of war from these warriors and blending it with the martial arts training he learned as a youth, Gareth is becoming something of a hero himself.
Brief Backstory: Yeseni was rescued by a Paladin of Pelor from a vampire nest, when a young boy - the rest of his family either dead or in thrall.
