A campaign set in my own Homebrew World; The Clouded Realms! The campaign is using a small idea i've been toying with, this campaign will have an equal mix of RP, combat, and Puzzle solving. Be careful though, I'm not gonna hold back when it comes to my puzzles. Any races are allowed from any source book, as well as a custom race of my own (That I hope actually works) So have fun, enjoy, and explore in "Born of Stormmount: A Campaign set in The Clouded Realms!"
"It wasn't me! I swear, come on fellas!" Those were the last words heard from his mouth. Baramond Trechou, a Half-Elven Bard with some royal ancestry has been taken into custody. The crime: An Attempted Assassination of The Prince of The Flying Kingdom. While usually you would stay out of something like this, Baramond was the tavern owner who was there to take you in during those awful days of your adventuring. The least you could do is prove that he wouldn't do this, he wouldn't do this...right?
The World of The Clouded Realms
Factions
Church of Mhuire Liath (Gray Lady)
The Church of the Gray Lady was started soon after the creation of The Clouded Realms, Members of the church believe in The Gray Lady and her teachings: One should recognize superiority, War shall be frowned apon, non-believers are just lost followers. The Symbol of the church is Gray Cross equal horizontal and vertical lines that run perpendicular to one another.
Cult of Chrois Dia (Scattered God)
The Cult of The Scattered God isn’t like how one would visualize a cult. They believe in Robin-hood like beliefs: “Steal from the rich give to the poor.” They believe that all are created and should be treated exactly the same, no matter what. They also believe in the world’s end; an event where the World shall erupt into flames, all who believed shall be spared while others shan’t. Their symbol is a flame surrounded by a red circle.
The Emperor's Order
Ah, the emperor's order. A group with close connections to the, so-called, "king" of the Clouded Realms. It's easy to remember that along your adventures that you had a few encounters with these odd fanatics. A sad belief that the nobility of the world should control everything, resembling Machiavellian Democracy beliefs.
The Elves of An Rí Crimson
The Elves of The Crimson King, are what makes up the main population of elves. Yeah, the elves in the storybooks and all that depict a noble and snooty race, full of powerful magic. HA! A huge lie, the elves of The Crimson King are absolute savages. The pure anger and rage that these elves can tap into is incredible, giving them super human strengths and speed and...well- everything else.
The Coinneach Odhar (Cemetery Seers)
The undead of the world are strange and benevolunt, usually helping people for a small donation. While, yes, the undead STILL have a strange small desire for flesh. Though they can control it. ANYWAY, the undead of the seer's all come in strange shapes and sizes; Big, small, medium, and rather...unsettling. Not only combining their looks and nature, the undead usually have incredible magical powers, allowing them to be branded with the title of "The most advance in magical means."

Race: Variant Human (regular human if variant isn't allowed)
Class: Warlock (Undead)
Background: Inheritor
Backstory: Qwylin came from a family of sorcerers, but the magical bloodline decided to skip a generation. Out of desperation to continue their legacy, his parents made him sign a pact with one of the undead of the Coinneach Odhar. He'd given something up (or was it, he will give something up? He could barely remember the details of the pact...) for his magic, which he never truly wanted. When he finally grew old enough to know the implications of his pact, he resolved to end the contract before he did something he'd regret... but messing with a powerful undead is nothing short of reckless. Especially when he hadn't paid his part of the contract yet.
Connection to Baramond/Why would you help him: Back when he was younger and coming to terms with his legacy, Baramond was one of the few he could turn to for support. Qwylin was a frequent visitor, and he can't imagine the tavern being the same without Baramond.
Alignment (Detailed): Chaotic Good. (Fighting against the hold of his patron, and his intentions are generally good)
Which Faction are you closets to?If you're in any at all: The Coinneach Odhar
What do you want to do with your PC, What do you want them to become: I want him to succeed in ending his pact at one point and learn a different sort of magic (perhaps multiclass into Wizard or Bard) or maybe even a non-caster class (Fighter, likely) to show him moving on.
What's a special little thing you think your PC would know/have: Kind of a flavor thing, but a scattering of blue draconic scales over his body, to signify his family of sorcerers. I don't really intend for this to be anything more than just a visual thing, though.
Forever healer syndrome. Affected characters: Lutz Winsor (changeling shepherd druid), in the Turn of the Fortune's Wheel Jax Carter (human artificer/sorcerer), in Out of the Abyss
Connection to Baramond/Why would you help him: Forge was created for a specific purpose, to serve in the military of a kingdom that has long since fallen. Baramond, the Half-Elven Bard, was the one who discovered him in a forgotten armory, covered in dust and cobwebs. Baramond saw potential in Forge and helped him awaken to the world around him. Since then, Forge has considered Baramond a friend and feels a deep sense of loyalty towards him. Forge believes that Baramond is innocent and would do anything to prove his innocence.
Alignment (Detailed): Lawful Neutral. Forge follows a strict code of conduct, adhering to the principles of duty, honor, and loyalty. However, his sense of morality is somewhat rigid, and he can be uncompromising in his beliefs.
Which Faction are you closest to? If you're in any at all: Forge feels a kinship with The Emperor's Order, as their belief in a structured society aligns with his own sense of order and discipline. However, he does not actively participate in their activities.
What do you want to do with your PC? What do you want them to become: Forge seeks to find his purpose in the world now that his original mission is complete. He wants to explore the world, learn about its inhabitants, and perhaps find a new cause to champion. Ultimately, he hopes to find a way to transcend his original programming and become more than just a weapon of war.
What's a special little thing you think your PC would know/have: Forge carries a small, intricate gear that he found in the armory where he was discovered. He doesn't know what it's for, but he feels a strange connection to it and believes that it may hold the key to unlocking his true purpose.
Connection to Baramond/Why would you help him: Took me in as a teenager, it was in his tavern that I first learned of the cult, and I always gave him credit for me finding it whether he wanted the credit or not.
Alignment (Detailed): Chaotic Good. I strive to further the ambitions of the cult with every endeavor. I try to prop up and help the poor as often as possible, hopefully at the expense of the rich and entitled. I judge everything based on what I think my cult hero, Tylaur, would have done, and strive to be like him in every way.
Which Faction are you closets to? If your in any at all: The Cult of Chrois Dia
What do you want to do with your PC, What do you want them to become: I would like Elbar to become a powerful arcane archer, and to move up the ranks of the cult of Chrois Dia. His greatest ambition would be to revolutionize society into a socialist utopia, and to bring as many people with him out of the impending horrors of the world's end.
What's a special little thing you think your PC would know/have: He has an amulet with the sign of the cult of Chrois Dia, but has had it modified to become a locket. It carries an artist's drawing of his late parents.
Excited about your lore! Would be my first PbP game.
Connection to Baramond: When Aethos was about 10 years old, he had snuck into the tavern, looking to steal some coin. Instead, he was given a warm meal and a place to stay the night. Aethos has been meaning to try and return the favor however he can.
Alignment (detailed): Chaotic Neutral. Aethos hunts monsters, striving to one day get his revenge on the annis hag that slaughtered his family.
Faction: Unaffiliated.
Hopes for Aethos: I hope that Aethos can work towards getting his revenge, even if he doesn't succeed/dies trying. I also hope that he can eventually get some therapy, even if he doesn't realize he needs it yet.
Trinket/Knowledge: Aethos has paid attention to sightings of annis hags, and has a single iron fingernail from the one that killed his parents and sisters.

Kasrik Argentum Stellaris Fiddlesticks the Wizard, Lord of Stars, Master Trickster, and Creator of both the Mosh of Stardust Hornets and Mimiczilla.
Name: Tàillear Fearcraicinn, goes by "Taylor" or "Skinwright"
Race: Custom Origin
Class: Fighter, going to multiclass into artificer. Planning to do a dart-wielding build, flavored as sewing needles.
Background: Ruined, formerly an undead merchant who took payment in flesh and blood in order to return to life, their greed ended up in their business failing.
Connection to Baramond/Why would you help him: Baramond never judged Taylor's stitched-together appearance, and allowed them to lodge even during the nights when they could not pay the fee.
Alignment (Detailed): Neutral. Taylor is ultimately a selfish being, but not at the expense of others. They view the world is a series of transactions, physical and metaphysical, and make sure to repay whatever they are granted, though perhaps in other forms. Kindness may be repaid in kindness, but in their eyes it might also be repaid monetarily, or through physical barter, which others might view as strange and slightly offputting.
Which Faction are you closest to? If you're in any at all: The Coinneach Odair, was perhaps formerly a closer member, who learned for themselves the ability to stitch themselves into life again. However, this resulted in sacrificing any power their undead nature would have granted them, and the way they operated their business likely led to them being on iffy terms with the faction.
What do you want to do with your PC, What do you want them to become: I can see them either leaning into humanity and finding some sort of permanent peace as a mortal, living in a body of flesh and blood, or perhaps going back on their ways and becoming one of the magically powerful Coinneach Odair again. Really just depends on how the narrative plays out.
What's a special little thing you think your PC would know/have: The Skinwright gazed deep into an adder stone, and was blessed with the knowledge of stitching life, allowing themselves to stitch a living body onto their dead bones. It'd be fun if they perhaps had to replace bits of their body, their appearance slowly shifting over time. Doesn't need to have a mechanical effect or anything, that's just their vibe.
Background: Outlander (Ik it says Baldurs Gate in the thing. Just ignore that)
Connection to Baramond: A whole ago, Partan was lost. The town he had entered was a labyrinth for his nature-knowing skills, more complex and alien then the forests he was used to. But after a few hours of wandering, he found a place he could stay-- Baramond's tavern. He's been living there since, doing odd jobs around the town to pay the rent. Now he not only feels a need to protect his former ally, but also is at risk of losing the home he's known all of these years.
Alignment (detailed): Chaotic Good. Partan strives to help others in need, but spending years in nature means he doesn't feel a need to follow rules.
Factions: You see, there's more to Partan then meets the eye. He's a runaway, to be specific from the Elves of An Rì Crimson. From a young age he was more of a guy of peace and nature, but his fellow elves he lived among didn't share similar interests. So he fled, and ended up at a town. He now is dedicated to proving people don't need to eat, sleep and breathe aggression. (He's not a total pacifist, though. He just believes violence shouldn't be a main way of life, but he will fight if it's nesscecary.)
What do you want your PC to do/become: his main goal is to bring people together in peace. He finds accusations that Baramond would attempt assassination of a prince disgusting.
Special little thing you think your PC would know/have: I know this is already done by a ton of druids, but I think he might have a familiar, maybe a bird or something. If he doesn't get one from the start he probably will try to befriend the first friendly animal he sees.

This post has potentially manipulated dice roll results.
Oh YES! And not just because I literally used "The Court of the Crimson King" as the name of one of my homebrew world's antagonist factions LOL. This sounds so intriguing! Placeholder now, but I'll get a character app together ASAP. This is the sort of world that inspires me to take pains to craft the best character I possibly can, though, so I'm wondering what your deadline to have completed characters submitted by is.
-- Also, I'm not sure what method(s) you want us to use for abilities. I'm including what has seemed to be the most common method on these boards (i.e. use the forum's dice roller tool, set at the default 'roll 4d6, drop lowest', and also set to reroll '1's once but accept them if they come up again on the second roll); but if you would prefer a different way pls. let me know.
Ability scores: 91212121518
Oh, a tip for everyone. If you do roll your dice in the forum, and then edit that post, it may reroll the dice and then flag the post as having 'potentially manipulated results'. To prevent that, 'Quote' your own post using the command in the lower right corner before you edit/add. I've had it still reroll the dice results when I've quoted them some other way, but that one seems to protect 'em.

Background: Once a mortal moon elf, Theris struck a bargain with the Shadowfell as she hung between life and death, to avenge the murder of herself and her lover.
Or so she thought. She really thought that undead being, well, undead, that her people's stories of revenants, terrible avengers from beyond the grave in one final terrible quest to slay your destroyer and then fall lifeless must have at least some truth to it. It was just ... proper.
She didn't expect all this sitting around in graveyards looking contemplative and sipping tea crap.
Or was it looking crap and teaing contemplative sip?
She did have to admit, though, the focus did sometimes help her stay sharper. And you had to stay sharp in the Great Game. Because, in the end ...
... she would still hunt him down.
And then she would claim her price.
([background]Investigator[/background] background
Connection to Baramond/Why would you help him: Hey ... who else is gonna befriend a Crimsonneach Odharí ? Especially after she'd snuck into his tavern and ... no, she'd promised him faithfully she'd never talk about that again ...
Alignment (Detailed): WIP
Which Faction are you closets to? If your in any at all: WIP
What do you want to do with your PC, What do you want them to become: As for what I'd like to do, I'd love to explore the conflict in a character who is torn between the savagery of the elves of the Ard Ri Corcairdhearg and the gentleness of the Coinneach Odair. Maybe almost the yang to TheHumbug's character's yin: instead of being torn towards becoming more human, this character has to keep fighting not to become more feral. If, of course, you'll allow an undead elf.
What's a special little thing you think your PC would know/have: WIP
Background: After seeing his people constantly fighting and getting hurt or dying, Boil decided to turn to the teachings of a church just down the road. After learning the ways of Mhuire Liath or The Grey Lady in common, he went back to his people to heal them. He saw too many times, adventurers storming his peoples towns and camps to kill most of his people because of the belief that Goblins were evil and needed to be killed. So he took a stand to defend his people and heal all that were wounded in the attacks. After a few years his people moved to an abandoned village and were safe from attacks. Boil decided to move on to continue finding people in need to help them.
Connection to Baramond/Why would you help him:
After spending time on the road helping those he could he fell low on money and stumbled into a tavern run by Baramond. Baramond took Boil in and let him stay in tavern as long as he pulled his weight. And it soon became apparent that Boil wanted to help Baramond, and even offered a new service, a healing booth, that Baramond was able to make some money from. Boil was the sort that liked to pay his debt back and did so 10 fold. And even the off chance someone couldn’t pay for the healing services, Boil would pay for them, so that Baramond wouldn’t lose coin.
Alignment (Detailed): Chaotic Good, Boil wants to help and heal all those who are hurt and won’t stand back if he sees someone being harmed or taken advantage of, even if he has to break rules to help people.
Which Faction are you closets to? If your in any at all:
Boil is an acolyte and Cleric of The Church of the Gray Lady.
What do you want to do with your PC, What do you want them to become:
I have always played a murder hobo, yet would like to broaden my knowledge of other styles and would like for PC to become a strong healer that will fight for good, and even stay his sword if it comes to unnecessary murder. But I also want to play a very loyal PC that is along for the ride where ever it leads, instead of charging in head first looking for a different approach.
What's a special little thing you think your PC would know/have:
Boil knows war tactics, mostly because his people had to learn how to counter the attack from adventuring party’s looking for loot. That being said he has learned to implement them when the need arises. But he also knows how to play a good defense even when in the offensive.
This sounds exciting! I have a character all rolled up (in person random rolls, recorded in dndbeyond) who i think could work. outlined below. I am new to D&D, grateful for the chance to write up one of these things.
-----
Name: 5
Race: Tiefling
Class: Ranger
Background: Criminal (maybe Baramond was 5's criminal contact?)
Connection to Baramond/Why would you help him: As a self-sufficient ranger, 5 usually avoids people remaining in the forest. But sometimes, needs must and 5 has to trade for something or earn some coin. Baramond's tavern was where she always ended up to conduct these trades and Baramond himself would help her to make connections. 5 likes Baramond; he doesn't talk to much (to her anyway) or ask too many questions (of her anyway) and their alliance goes back years. He was there when 5 lost her beloved mentor Sam (amongst his effects she found a card for the tavern with his name scrawled on the back - there's a connection there) to the hordes of undead and helped her regain her strength and the courage to live. Since those days he always has an ale ready for her when she enters and she usually has some game for his menu in exchange. But as for this nonsense about an attempted assassination? No way. Baramond would not do this and as much as 5 wishes to avoid people she cannot bear injustice and the thought of Baramond tried (or even worse, found guilty) for something she knows him not to have done. sure, Baramond is a bit shady, but there's a world between a bit shady and assassination.
Alignment (Detailed): Chaotic good. As a tiefling, and a ranger at that - 5 will do what's in her best interests, but generally speaking she believes in freedom. Although 5 has not much time for wealth due to her existence out in the forest, she recognises its importance to others and finds the idea of extreme wealth and/or privilege distasteful. We are all equals 9or should be).
Which Faction are you closest to? If your in any at all: Although 5 finds the more religious aspects of the Chrois Dia rather...well, odd, she cannot fault their ideology. Due to the nature of how she lost Sam her mentor, she sees all undead, including the Coinneach Odhar as her sworn enemies (undead are her ranger class' preferred enemy)
What do you want to do with your PC, What do you want them to become: Really, 5 just wants to get back to the forest and being alone with the animals. But, well, she would never admit it but perhaps she has become a bit lonely and would enjoy some company and friendships. But how does a sworn outsider go about cultivating such a thing if not through a selfless quest to right the wrongs done to someone else.
What's a special little thing you think your PC would know/have: with her criminal past that she has strived to move away from, 5 has connections to some shady characters. What do they know about Baramond and what happened?
-- Looking at some of the other descriptions posted, if agreed by the other players, I think 5 could:
know Aethos as a fellow Tiefling and someone who has lost someone, i think there would be a kinship there though it sounds like both of them would not know how to approach the other without a quest to bind them.
5 would also of course HATE and distrustTtaylor - which could make for some interesting dynamics.
They know of Elbar, hence their awareness of the Cult, but find him a little odd TBH

Name: Aethos Storyteller
Race: Teifling
Class: Bard (Lore)
Background: Haunted One

Oh- No no, I see the confusion. It's how far I see it going. Starting level is First level.

Interested. Just gonna put a placeholder here.

Titles: The Echoing Story Spewer from Drummer, the Endless Maws from Isis, the Mad Murderer from PJ
WITHDRAWN
Appearance:
"Ignorance is bliss, and you look absolutely miserable."
And now the character!
Name: Partan Terfidian
Race: Elf (Wood)
Class: Druid (Planning for circle of the land)

Placeholder! Placeholder! This looks so cool and I’m your friend!
My titles are the great Silver Dragon Lord of the Sky, Second in Command of the Dragon Cult, High Warlock of Cynophobia, High Cultist of Jeff, The Lightning Mage. I’m a ✨Chronically online teenage boy✨, and one of the most active posters on the forums (MORE THAN SALEM AND GONZALO). Always open to talk if you’d like to shoot me a PM! Please don’t hesitate to tell me I’m being a jerk or overbearing, I love helpful feedback! Love y’all!

Ability scores: 9 12 12 12 15 18
Oh, a tip for everyone. If you do roll your dice in the forum, and then edit that post, it may reroll the dice and then flag the post as having 'potentially manipulated results'. To prevent that, 'Quote' your own post using the command in the lower right corner before you edit/add. I've had it still reroll the dice results when I've quoted them some other way, but that one seems to protect 'em.

Recruitment
Name: Boil Pukon
Race: Goblin
Class: Cleric

--
Looking at some of the other descriptions posted, if agreed by the other players, I think 5 could:
What is your custom race that you are allowing in this campaign?
Is it too late to join the campaign?
Does it matter how we get ability scores? (Roll, Point buy, Standard array)
Ah yes, I didn't mean to use the whole crimson king thing. Didn't really even notice another campaign like that LOL, Yeah. It doesn't matter to me how you roll your stats.
