I'm looking for mostly experienced players to set the tone, make requests, and really roleplay their character's backgrounds and decisions. When done correctly, the Sandbox World will respond to the character you have created which should offer greater encounters and RP options.
Requirements Create a 1st level character with any and all character creation options and choose from one of the following Point Buy Systems.
Standard 27 point buy 15, 14, 13, 12, 10, 8 You can use the Standard array or standard point buy.
Empowered Array +2 17, 16, 15, 14, 12, 10 You can add +2 to the Standard array or choose your own 27 point buy array and then add +2 to all stats
Wealth and Magic Item Access Everyone can start with both the max starting wealth for their class and one equipment pack plus an additional 500 gp. I've been using Sane Magical Prices for a while and I haven't run into too many problems (https://drive.google.com/file/d/0B8XAiXpOfz9cMWt1RTBicmpmUDg/view?resourcekey=0-ceHUken0_UhQ3Apa6g4SJA) If there are magic items on your wish list that are not priced here, let me know and I will come up with a DM assigned price.
Backstory Besides choosing a Background or a Custom Background, and writing your Backstory, it's recommended that you take a couple minutes to write a post or two from your character's point of view, what he/she wants and how they might go about getting what they want.
Other than that, Please PM me with a link to your character and that you are interested in playing. I'll send you a message and link to your own game thread. I will be choosing between 2 and 4 players, each to have their own storyline and PbP thread.

Soma Prime is a newly minted Paladin. He's somewhat unique as he's on a journey of Self discovery firmly believing Dragonborn are the children of Bahamut who he followers. Is he right? Time will tell. He's overly keen and is seeking a name for himself as a Paladin who matters, he wants to stand out. He's got an ego! Furiously loyal and he was known to be overly so while serving his apprenticeship.
Very interesting, but please explain to a VERY experienced roleplayer who just may be a tiny bit older (55) and NOT terribly experienced in the new jargon, online playing, etc.) WTF exactly a "Solo Sandbox" campaign is.

No problem.
Solo can mean a campaigns with one player.
Sandbox campaigns just mean that there isn't a certain path.
For me, my sandboxes always include some prepared NPC's and some prepared encounters that I've playtested and run previously. I've playtested this solo campaign with one player from 1st level until 13th level, so I've got plenty of content. However, a real sandbox, should allow a player to make such unusual choices that it takes the adventure into a unique and new path that requires all new content to be prepared.
Either way, I'd love to see what character you've got in mind and to see how you explore the homebrew world I've made.
Brother Jayce has just completed his training and has left his church to attract more followers to the faith and to pierce the darkness and comfort the suffering. Jayce is allowing Helm to guide him where the Cleric is needed the most. Jayce had a rough childhood and experienced much starvation and suffering, and now is committed to relieve as much of it as he can. Brother Jayce also wants to grow in power and faith through his exploits and use his fame to rise up in the hierarchy of the church. He truly believes that the more he sacrifices for Helm, the more powerful he will become.
Can you tell us a bit more about the world? What kind of tone are you looking for, general aesthetic, fixed aspects of the world, source books that are off limits? How much say does the player have in what the world looks like?
Can you tell us a bit more about the world? What kind of tone are you looking for, general aesthetic, fixed aspects of the world, source books that are off limits? How much say does the player have in what the world looks like?
Great questions.
For tone, I'm looking for players who give feedback to set the tone for the type of exploration they would like. I'm familiar with high fantasy and high magic, similar to Lord of the Rings books, but I'm open to other types of exploration, nearly antything is on the table, except maybe torture.
I would say that the general aestetic is a homebrew world loosely based off of Middle Earth but more compact aka mini world. War is a main theme, past wars between humans and goblin kind. Alliances with dwarves and elves to fight off the orcs and minions. But placing war in the past and exploring the dangers of life in a time of peace. The struggle of life in a society with high fantasy.
I'm open to allow all published source books and homebrew items on a case by case basis or not at all.
As for changing the world, I would say I'm completely open to nearly a 100% rewrite. Originally, Vesper was one of my first homebrew kindgoms, so my content is large but I've run plenty of unique content on the fly. So the real question is, "how much do you want to focus on world building versus playing?
looking over the item pricing guide, I was looking for a Moon Touched Greatsword but did not see it. How much would that be?
Additionally, with Homebrew content, if there was a race we might be interested in doing, could we send it to you for approval or must it be only official races?

From the Sane Prices list, a Rare enchantment of "Vicious" added to a weapon makes it crit for additional damage and can be purchased for only +350 gp. The assumption is that you must also pay the base price of the weapon, especially for high cost equipment like plate, so a Vicious Greatsword would cost 50 +350 = 400 gp
Because Moonlight has no mechanical effects, as far as I know, except for epic imprisonment of Tiamat or maybe some minor effects for boosting characters with Lycanthropy, I would say that to add "Moon Touched" which is a common enchantment, to a Greatsword, would be about +120 gp value, mostly just to allow creatures who don't have darkvision to see in the dark in a limited radius. So a Greatsword 50 +120 = 170 gp could be purchased with Moon Touch in any major city with magical shops.
Additionally, with Homebrew content, if there was a race we might be interested in doing, could we send it to you for approval or must it be only official races?
I'd be open to crafting a new race, if that's what you are asking. Sounds like it could be fun.
Wow. I just read a bit from the dndbeyond web article for Blood Hunter, and Hemocraft Dice reminds me of Battlemaster Superiority Dice. But Amplify doesn't resemble anything I've seen since 3.5 Blood Magus. Sounds extremely dark and dangerous but once I read over the full class description, I don't see why not.
To be honest, having a sandbox gives a lot of flexibility for custom classes and rules, so I'll say yes to Blood Hunters, yes this will be extremely challenging to both DM and player.
Elements of it play into a character backstory, so I wanted to clear that up before I submitted it to you.
I'm a big fan of stacking enchantments, so you can buy a greatsword for 50 gp, then add Moon Touched for 120 gp, then add +1 for an additional 1000 gp and then add +3000 gp for the next enhancement +2. I will reserve mixing magical effect for the specific effects like adding vicious to this weapon +350 gp sounds fine but adding something else might require some balancing.
The PC would be a child of both an Air Genasi & Water Genasi, which would possibly make a Storm Genasi, if you’d be down to craft that.
Genasi Traits Languages, Common and Primordial
Ability Score Increase, Your Constitution score increases by 2. With floating ASI rules from Tasha's, this can be any stat. Just one +2 racial bonus to a single stat Or +1 racial bonus to any two stats
Age, up to 120 years. No Change
Making a "Storm Genasi" aka Air and Water Genasi Usually combining two races and taking one but not the other option is preferred for balancing. However, I find these racial features to be not game changing and rather for me as a DM they fall under flavor. So for my game you can take one or both racial options except where listed below. Just don't expect every DM to be so flexible.
Air Genasi (Legacy) Ability Score Increase, Your Dexterity score increases by 1 With floating ASI rules from Tasha's, this can be any stat. But just one +1 racial bonus to a single stat
Unending Breath, You can hold your breath indefinitely while you’re not incapacitated. Not breathing sounds really powerful, let's go for it.
Mingle with the Wind, 1/day levitate spell Sounds great, add this to your race.
Water Genasi (Legacy) Ability Score Increase, Your Wisdom score increases by 1. Because you already get any +1, you don't get this again
Acid Resistance, You have resistance to acid damage. Very cool, not too powerful, add this to your race
Amphibious, You can breathe air and water. Not needed since you already don't need to breath, unless you want to swap breathing water for not needing to breath at all.
Swim, You have a swimming speed of 30 feet. Let's splash this in, sounds fun.
Call to the Wave, shape water cantrip. At 3rd level, 1/day create or destroy water spell Since you already have levitate once per day, it's somewhat of a balancing issue to give you more daily spell abilities but also these spells aren't considered game changing, so let's allow all of these together, no problem.
Thank you to everyone who reached out, either here on the recruit thread or with a private message.
I have four players and I'm closing recruitment. Since I value players who post once a day (or more often) I am open to running one or two more games, especially if you have already communicated with me and are just waiting to follow-up.
We have a great group of players you can follow along here. If you are playing feel free to check in on other threads but be prepared for spoilers to your own stories (shared content)
