Under raging storm clouds, a lone figure stands silhouetted against the ancient walls of Castle Ravenloft. The vampire Count Strahd von Zarovich stares down a sheer cliff at the village below. A cold, bitter wind spins dead leaves about him, billowing his cape in the darkness.
Lightning splits the clouds overhead, casting stark white light across him. Strahd turns to the sky, revealing the angular muscles of his face and hands. He has a look of power — and of madness. His once handsome face is contorted by a tragedy darker than the night itself.
Rumbling thunder pounds the castle spires. The wind’s howling increases as Strahd turns his gaze back to the village. Far below, yet not beyond his ken, a party of adventurers has just entered his domain. Strahd’s face forms a twisted smile as his dark plan unfolds. He knew they were coming, and he knows why they have come — all according to his plan. He, the master of Ravenloft, will attend to them.
Another lightning flash rips through the darkness, its thunder echoing through the castle’s towers. But Strahd is gone. Only the howling of the wind — or perhaps a lone wolf — fills the midnight air. The master of Ravenloft is having guests for dinner. And you are invited.
Before I go any further I want to make it clear that I am new at dming and have only had one previous time of dming a pbp game and that was well over a year ago. Second due to my work I may be slow to respond during the day but I think that it is fair to say I would like at least one post a day from everyone if it is possible. If I cannot post due to outside circumstances I will let players know.
For stats I will be doing 4d6 and dropping the lowest. Make sure to set it up so that you reroll ones always as I want everyone to have a fair chance of getting good stats. If you do not want to roll you can do standard array or point buy but must post it on your application that you are doing so.
All characters will start at level one with basic equipment as well as 100gp with which to spend on other items they may wish to buy. All characters that start with leather armor can freely upgrade to Studded Leather since I find regular leather to be worthless in most circumstances. To make it more interesting, all characters start out with a feat and one common magic item such as a Cloak of Billowing, Dread Helm, ext.

Henry - Human - Monk - Soldier - extra feat: alert
Henry was a trainee at a special school. Trained from birth to hone his body for fighting the enemies of the world, Henry is a man full of certainty in an uncertain world. He’s now come to the lands of Count Strahd... looking for trouble.
I’d enjoy having a tandem backstory if anyone wanted to buddy up on this one
Backstory: Priest was abandoned on the steps of a church when he was young - instead of destroying him the people there decided to give him a chance and raise him as a priest. Since then he has dedicated his life to the goddess Serenrae and her teachings working to show that second chances are for anyone. He now travels the world as an oddity to most he meets being a tiefling priest.
Backstory: For as long Belmarm can remember, he has served the Raven Queen loyally as a scout upon the material plane, testing and seeking out interesting souls that might be of interest to her. Wanting for little more, and fearing only failure and secrets, he has service has been unwavering. His fervor only grew when a moment of emotional weakness led to the falling of one his targets, and yet he'd been forgiven.
Yet, when lent a more direct power for the reaping, a chill of worry began to creep into Belmarm's mind. Assassins were not unheard of serving his queen, but... why him? Why merely an eye upon the world was given such boon? Was this a long delayed retribution, or something else altogether? Fearful for the first genuine time in over two hundred years, a far more wary Belmarm returned to the prime material, now a bit desperate to seek out souls of interest or potential, and... nurture them into something greater.
Chosen Feat: Elven Accuracy(CHA) or Healer's Feat(Dependent on Party Needs)
Common Magic Item: Shadow Scale Mail (Or Breastplate, if a higher costing armor is allowed)
Backstory: Falzaren was raised to embrace his golden dragon heritage, fighting evil in all its forms. He has decided he's finally ready to go out into the world and do what he's been raised to do. Possible to work in with Nschrock's character and possibly others.
Class: Blood Hunter (if you allow it, otherwise ranger)
Background: Folk Hero
Backstory: Born in a poor village, to a poorer family. As soon as he came of age he joined the militia and trained to use a crossbow. One day the village was attacked by monsters in the middle of the night. He roused the rest of the militia and was able to help defend the village. A travelling monster hunter was in town and saw this all occur and offered to train him in their skills. He spent a few years with them and has since went off on his own to do what he can to hunt the evil things that stalk the world.

Ash'myr wiped his brow as he stepped through the mist. He had heard stories, rumours, of this place - he could feel it, the evil that dwelt here. "This place must be PURGED!" Ash's voice was gruff and harsh as he tried to shout over the sound of the raging storm.
CRACK! A bolt of lightning lit the immediate area. Ash was dressed in a dark cloak that barely shielded him from the inclement weather. His face was grim and tattooed with red tribal marks contrasting against his milk-white skin. Though he bore the skin-curse of being a tiefling his tribe had blessed him for his upcoming mission; the tattoos were a permanent testament to the task he had been assigned - to rid the world of the evil that plagued this land.
"Where evil resides, fire must purify!"
Ash's mind recalled the blessing he had received no more than a couple of weeks ago. He was kneeling in front of his tribe's elders though they were muttering he could not hear what they said, perhaps it was a prayer. Anointing oils had been poured on his tattoos and a promise had been made; succeed in his task or die doing so. Ash was unaware of what magics bound him to fulfil this promise, but he knew that he must follow through with his task or face damnation.
Looking up at the darkened sky, Ash shouted at the howling wind, "YOU KNOW WE ARE HERE, DON'T YOU! WE WILL BE YOUR END! WHERE EVIL RESIDES, FIRE MUST PURIFY!"

And so his father trained Archer and his older brother to protect their sisters, because the magic is very tiring to use, and the little family has become a horror-wielding force in the wilderness, as the combination of spear and magic can overcome most obstacles. But alas, when the flu attacked the children's parents, and the children had to take care of themselves, then the impassable impediment comes: a young black dragon lined up into the family's lair, injuring Archer's parents and siblings. His parents died from their injuries and illness, and so Archer and his siblings continued to wander in the wilderness, alone, grieved, until they finally reached one of the coastal state cities where they managed to sneak through the sisters' magic. Archer and his siblings opened a government-sponsored orphanage, and trained the orphans in the same tribal traditions and arts. But that was not enough for Archer, who decided to join the adventurous group, who embarked on a treasure discovery quest, which Archer planned to sell to enlarge the orphanage. Tierra grew up deep in dense woods that hunter's rarely, if ever, trekked far into to hunt their prey. Stolen from her parents as a baby and deposited in those woods, left for dead, it seemed as if nature itself wanted to protect her. And for the first 8 years of her life, a nature spirit in the form of a mother bear took care of her and trained her in nature based magics, and how to take and give back to the forest. It also taught her of the mark she bore, and the gifts that came with it. She had an innate ability to tame the animals she came across, and an affinity for wildlife in general.
8 years passed, and one day while Tierra was exploring on her own, hunters captured her. Forcing her to leave behind her home, the hunters took her back to their own village, and taught her how to speak the languages that they could speak. 2 agonizing years passed, and one night the village forgot to ensure that the doors were locked tightly, and Tierra escaped back into the woods she truly called home. But it was too late, the spirit that raised her had fled. And so Tierra fled even deeper into the woods to try and find it.
She eventually did, but by that time Tierra was well into adulthood, and had learned most the rest of her lessons on her own. The spirit returned, and while she couldn't tell what it was thinking, she felt pride in how she had survived for so long without any other help. It's final blessing to her was a warning. She could tame the fiercest of beasts with a single touch, but something was coming that was even more dangerous than even the forest could contain. People were coming, and they would need her help. She would need their help if they were to keep the balance of nature and mortal made.

Backstory: Rewyn was born in a small Kobold tribe that was underground. When she was six, she found a human monk who had injured himself while exploring. She decided to help the monk and in return, the monk taught her his ways and she decided to travel with him for a while, learning more about the world outside her home. 6 years later, she returns home and quickly became a folk hero because, thanks to her training and powers, she helped her tribe out and it prospered. However, about 5 years later, the poor tribe was attacked and taken over by orcs, enslaving the populous and banishing a badly wounded Rewyn from the tribe. Now 18 and fulled healed, she travels to the imperial city to train herself up and to free her home.

Just a note so everyone knows I am perfectly fine with bloodhunter for critical role content but if you would like to use gunslinger I will need a good explanation of how it fits with the character and why their world would have guns in it.

Race: Kobold
Class: Monk
Background: Folk hero
Chosen Feat: Sentinel
Common Magic Item: Candle of the Deep (Had NO idea what to give her)
Just a note so everyone knows I am perfectly fine with bloodhunter for critical role content but if you would like to use gunslinger I will need a good explanation of how it fits with the character and why their world would have guns in it.
