Centuries ago the land of Eln was invaded by a Blight. The heroes rose, a great many of them; and pushed back. They fought, sometimes winning, sometimes losing, but always fighting. Then it happened; they lost. The Blight disappeared, but in it's place the 7 Kings of Eln came in to being. They divided the realm, each ruling their own kingdom, fighting each other for land, subjects....power.
The people lost; all of the races did. The Kings crushed dissent, brutally, and then animated those who'd tried to rise up against them, as a warning.
The small dutchy of Daris is making a last stand against the darkness. They've pooled what meager resources they can, and are out-fitting one last band of Heroes, to try and push back the night and reclaim the Realm; to defeat the 7 Kings of Eln; before all light is extinguished.
Backstory: Alex was just a simple cartographer working in her home village of [VILLAGE NAME]. She loved her job, and that little cartography shop she worked in, never wanting any other life than the one surrounded by maps. Whenever she had time, she went out of town to sketch the landscapes found, a favorite hobby of hers. The beauty of nature was what brought her the most joy, and a scenic view was absolutely incredible. While her life was perfect, she felt something was missing, so she went to the local blacksmith for help. He told her a basic training of combat was what she needed. She believed him, and he became her mentor. When her shift ended, it was off to the blacksmith to begin training. While at first she was terrible, but the more they trained, the... less terrible she got. Upon readiness, she decided to leave her village to pursue a new adventure, using her skills --combat and cartography-- to defend nature and innocent alike.
@BaconExpert982 - Yep, those Core books. I have a goodly library of books (mostly older editions), but would prefer to keep it as much Core as possible for this first game.
Background: Balm didn't have anywhere else to go as the wars raged. Her village thought the voices she heard were bad omens, so they cast her out, and the only ones who would take her in was one of the doomed armies. She survived, somehow. Each battle, she managed not to die. Not be raised like so many of her fellows. And she loved it. Became gleeful in the chaos. Listening to the voices, or rather, one voice, who seemed to know how to protect her from physical harm, if not emotional. Then, one day, her company was gone. Likely to be raised again to fight her. So she fled. To Daris. Rumors of hope. Of revenge.
@GoodBovine - Nope, I meant standard 28 point buy...at least that's what it was in 3.5. If it's 27 point buy as standard....I'll give you all the extra point, use 28. :)
Backstory: Trevin grew up in a small city he was the son of a merchant, as such, it was assumed that he would follow in his father’s footsteps and take over the shop when the time came. However he had no interest in becoming a merchant, instead of helping at the family shop, he would often sneak off to the library where he would spend most of the day reading, history being his favorite topic to read about. When he turned thirteen a traveling scholar visited the city, the man was impressed with Trevin's eagerness to learn and agreed to mentor him. He would stay with his mentor for years, learning everything he could under the tutelage of his mentor. Years later when reached adulthood, Trevin felt he learned everything he could from the man, so he decided that he would set off on his own seeking more knowledge and maybe if he was lucky to rediscover so long lost history or relic.
Backstory: Zeal was found on the street by the clergy of his local temple after he ran away from his home. Showing pity they took him in and brought him up in the way of their god. As he began to grow though he saw the injustice and horror in the world and felt moved to take a stand against them. Feeling his god calling him to fight for those who need him he left the temple.
Assuming this will be PBP here on the boards I am interested. I have been wanting to play around with a TWF Barbarian build. For planning purposes, do you know what levels this adventure will take us through?
I present Trian Porterson (Variant Human Barbarian 2/Fighter 1).
Trian was a simple Porter in the small town where he was born. His father was a porter before him and likely back through the generations. But then the war came, and the town was destroyed. At a later stage of life, Trian found himself without a home or a family, and so he wandered...and he learned. From elves of the forests he gained an understanding of graceful combat styles, protecting, defending, and attacking with the blade. From the dwarves of the mountains he learned to harness his anger over the war and channel it into a fiery rage to bring power behind his strikes, and he received a mighty warpick as a gift upon his departure from their lands.
Now the opportunity comes to strike back against the evil that befell his town, and perhaps bring peace to the land. Trian will step forward and be counted for that opportunity.

Name: Leoperos Race: Forest Elf Class: Monk - Way of Shadow Background: Hermit Backstory: Leoperos is a bit of an oddity. At 372 years of age, he does fit the old and wise stereotype. He's even a bit of a philosopher. But, because Leo has spent most of those years in the monastery training and studying, he tends to be a bit naive when it comes to dealing with others out in the world. Centuries of reading everything that's been written about the 7 Kings has made Leo an expert on them, on their personalities, their desires, and, he hopes, their weaknesses. Leoperos answers Daris's call with a smile because he's convinced that he alone has figured out the secret to killing at least some of the 7 kings.

Backstory: Sage grew up in part of the first kingdom, in an orphanage. He never knew who his parents were, or why he was left there. But he knew he had to leave. The First King of Eln was growing more and more tyrannous by the day. Soon the whole city would suffocate under his boot. So one day, in the middle of the night, Sage ran. He didn't even know where he was going, but he ran none the less. After three months of evading the authorities, he finally found out about the duchy. He made for that direction, and it only took a few close calls with death for him to make it there. What he found was not promising. He imagined an army of knights in shining armour, holding their banners high. What he found was a small group of Ill prepared rebels. Knowing he had to help in some way, he joined up with the resistance....

@Bunni - I don't have a Discord set up, though I might do that, definitely PbP on these forums, any Discord (if it happens), would be for extra chat purposes.
@Bounces - Assuming I keep this running as long as I hope to, top out level will be 16-18.
Wizards are definitely allowed, but their advancement opportunities in Daris are more than somewhat limited. Daris doesn't have a wizard's school, so everything is done by Master/Apprentice relationship, and the "Master's" aren't usually that advanced. (Crunchy bit: Wizard's over 7th level don't really exist in Daris, so acquiring spells can be done to that level, but after that, you'll need to scavenge scrolls/spellbooks from the other, occupied kingdoms. There is a story reason for this)
Cleric's of the Sun domain have been exterminated, with extreme prejudice, throughout the Realm. Any of them that you are able to find would be in Daris, but hiding. There are standing, LARGE, bounties from the other kingdoms for any Sun clerics that are turned in and/or killed.
The reason for the above is...well, like I alluded to in the intro, undead, lots of them. The other kingdoms are lousy with them.
I'm keeping the recruiting open through this weekend, and I'll make selections on Tuesday the 22nd. I'll answer questions as I can, so go ahead and throw them at me.
If you're still recruiting, I'd like to toss my hat into the mix.
Name: Whitley Boldleaf
Class: Cleric (Trickery)
Race: Halfling (lightfoot)
Backstory: Whitley spent most of his life with a traveling circus. They felt like a second family to him. His performance consisted of a show of legerdemain where he would perform feats of trickery and deception. All his life, he strived to bring joy to people and put smiles on their faces, a goal made more difficult by the constant looming threat of the Seven Kings. When the Duchy of Daris called for adventurers to take on the Seven Kings, Withley saw it as an opportunity. On one hand, the promise of fortune seemed interesting. On the other hand, the need to bring hope to the people in these dark times was a chance he knew he needed to take.
