Hey all, while the searing arc strike ability uses a specific spell and its attendant levels. But for the other abilities (radiant sun bolt, searing sun burst, and sun shield) is there an effective spell level. For instance it says that the sun bolt is a spell attack, so does mean counterspell can cancel it out? If so what is the level and does it change as you level and it gets stronger? Similar for Sun Burst, with the added confusion that you seem to be able to potentially "raise the spell level" when you take the option of adding more ki points. Lastly the Sun shield, this becomes especially important as there is a rival way of the shadow monastery in this world. Since they get darkness at 6th level and darkness dispels magical light of spell level 2nd or lower. The ability is basically a permanent on and resume or dismiss as a bonus action, but isn't gained as an ability until level 17.
Actually, looking closer at darkness, while sun shield doesn't illuminate darkness, darkness does not dispell it completely either. A DM might rule that since the light is still "on" you can use its reaction.
Magical darkness spreads from a point you choose within range to fill a 15-foot radius Sphere for the Duration. The darkness spreads around corners. A creature with Darkvision can't see through this darkness, and nonmagical light can't illuminate it.
If the point you choose is on an object you are holding or one that isn't being worn or carried, the darkness emanates from the object and moves with it. Completely covering the source of the darkness with an opaque object, such as a bowl or a helm, blocks the darkness.
If any of this spell's area overlaps with an area of light created by a spell of 2nd Level or lower, the spell that created the light is dispelled.
While Sun Shield states:
Sun Shield
At 17th level, you become wreathed in a luminous, magical aura. You shed bright light in a 30-foot radius and dim light for an additional 30 feet. You can extinguish or restore the light as a bonus action.
If a creature hits you with a melee attack while this light shines, you can use your reaction to deal radiant damage to the creature. The radiant damage equals 5 + your Wisdom modifier.
From what I can see there are two interactions which people have questions about. First is, does Sun Shield illuminate through the spell Darkness? Darkness states "nonmagical light can't illuminate it" while Sun Shield says "you become wreathed in a luminous, magical aura" so since it is a magical source of light it illuminates as per normal. Second, does Darkness dispel Sun Shield? Sun Shield is not a spell so is therefore not subject to the clause "If any of this spell's area overlaps with an area of light created by a spell of 2nd Level or lower, the spell that created the light is dispelled." and thus stays active and cannot be turned off via the Darkness spell.

Spell attack does not mean it is a spell or has a spell level. Only steering arc strike casts a spell. Sun burst and sun shield do not.
Sun shield is defeated by darkness, but it can't be countered, dispelled, or suppressed by any other spell that would effect spells.

It is magical light and not a spell of second level or lower, so it would illuminate the darkness.
[Edit]And this is a different answer than I gave a year ago... I wonder if I misread something back then.
