I am missing something or does the "Thief of Five Fates" invocation seem really underpowered?
Thief of Five Fates: You can cast Bane once using a warlock spell slot. You can't do so again until you finish a long rest.
First: Bane is a concentration spells which means it conflicts with the Warlock staple Hex spell. This is a minor point since the Warlock spell list does have a number of spells that require concentration but it still is a point against it.
Second: It still requires the use of a Warlock spell slot AND only once per long rest. This seems excessive. With a Warlock's limited spell slot count, I don't think it would be OP to either give one free casting of the spell per long rest OR allow it to be cast any number of times using a warlock spell slot. For most of their career, a Warlock has 2 spell slots. Using one to cast Bane, in my opinion, is sacrifice enough (and does not need to be limited to once per long rest). Yes, I realize that Warlock get spell slots back after a short rest but that still leaves them only two spell slots for the next encounter where they can again expend a slot to cast Bane.
The only possible abuse I can think of, if the "once per long rest" condition was dropped, is that Warlocks can use it outside of combat. Although the penalty to attack will not be useful outside of combat the penalty to saving throw can be. Cast Bane on the target to lower its saving throw against a future more powerful spell. Is this the reason for the "once per long rest"? Bane is a first level spell, so it is still level appropriate. In my opinion, the Invocation should just be allowing the Warlock to know a spell that isn't on the Warlock spell list. It becomes a known Warlock spell for that Warlock and follows the same rules as any other spell.
It is a rather weak. In general I do not like any of the 1/rest invocations. They are just adding more spells and usually a slot for that spell. If you want more spells and slots, play a Sorceror.
To me, the invocations should be used for always on magical abilities, or at least 3 x between rests. The warlock is the guy that has constant magical effects without limit, not the guy with the really great one shot ability.
Yeah, avoid the invocations that are once per day, but still require a spell slot. There are 7 of them, and really only polymorph is worth it.
There are 12 invocations that let you cast a leveled spell at will like a cantrip, which are strictly better. And several more that are either always on or make eldritch blast a better damage spell than half your available leveled spells.

I fully agree enough to click I like your post and quote you and say so.
And I fully support a way to enhance warlocks abilities.
It does look like the "uses a spell slot" and "once per long rest" is present on a number of spells (typically combat ones), so at least it is consistent but it does seem unnecessarily restricted. I think I would really need to be desperate for Bane (or any of the other spells in the same situation) in order to get it through an Invocation.
As a HB campaign dungeon master, I personally like to throw these at players as a bonus use for characters with some adjustments to limits at level ups. D&D is designed to be adapted for each group of players and scaled to the difficulty of your campaign.
Talk with your dungeon master about how you see using this invocation and work on the adjustments together.
Cheers

Yeah, this invocation is quite weak, so probably avoid taking it.
If you've already taken it, just switch it next time you level up.
BoringBard's long and tedious posts somehow manage to enrapture audiences. How? Because he used Charm Person, the #1 bard spell!
He/him pronouns. Call me Bard. PROUD NERD!

HERE.If we had access to D&D Beyond stats, i'm sure we'd see that Thief of Five Fates is one of the least popular invocation taken, if not last.
