I have a friend interested in playing Eldritch knight. He wanted me to help him find all the spells that he can take that also has him make a melee weapon attack ie. booming blade/green flame blade, but also spells like absorb elements that result in elemental damage being added to his melee weapon attacks. Can you guys think of any other spells that fit this theme of melee weapon enhancement?
Note that many of these spells are not evocation or abjuration. Outside of the cantrips, you'll only be able to take those spells at certain levels as an EK, unless you take levels in another class (likely wizard or artificer). This means you'll be very limited in the number of these spells that you can take. DxJxC's contribution of Elemental Weapon is a transmutation spell like many of these spells, and will also be limited. My suggestion would be to find out at what levels you can choose spells from any class and figure out which spells you want from among those spells. You can swap those spells out for other spells but only those limited spells can be non evocation or abjuration spells. Shield, Absorb Elements, and something like Magic Missile that fit the limitations AND don't require an spell attack roll or force a save are excellent options for those selections that are limited to evocation and abjuration.
The Eldritch Knight's restriction on Aburation/Evocation spells vs other spells at 3/8/14/20 is so byzantine as to be almost incomprehensible. But still, even if you're trying your best to follow that rule, that gives you 1/2/3/4 spells that you're free to learn from any school you want on the Wizard spell list. More than enough room to pick up Haste etc.
And again, unless dndbeyond is wrong in this respect, Elemental Weapon is not a wizard spell and requires multiclassing.
Lol. Double whammy against Elemental Weapon. Even following the limitations, you do have room for some good options indeed. You simply need to carefully make your selections at those levels. Haste is a no brainer for an EK. Many of the others mentioned have some over lap and can be whittled down accordingly. Others may be better cast by a buddy. But knowing the options is certainly better than not knowing the options.
I don't think the rules for EK spell selection are all that byzantine.
Chicken_Champ mentioned some good spells for four of your selections. As far as your other (eventually) 9 selections go from abjuration or evocation, there aren't too many that weren't mentioned that fit your theme. Shield might work for you (and could bring your ac to quite a high number for a time). Some of the UA psionic spells might be interesting for an EK as well. As far as other choices go, I would tend to avoid the single-target damage spells since your weapon attacks as a fighter can already provide you with single target damage (probably outpacing the spell damage).

Some of these don't really directly fit melee weapon enhancement, but are at least within that vibe.

I'm going to make this way harder than it needs to be.
You somehow missed elemental weapon (though haste is better).
I believe I missed it because I was working down the Wizard spell list, which is all that's available to an Eldritch Knight.

Oops. I always thought it was a wizard spell...
