How many times can a Sorcerer use the metamagic ability a turn? Scenario:
High level Divine Sorcerer;
Quickened spell and Distant Spell on Cure Wounds to target an ally out of touch range as a bonus action. Twinned Spell on that same Cure Wounds to target a different ally out of touched range.
Same turn, as an action Cure Wounds on an ally in touch range, Twinned Spell on THAT cure wounds to heal myself.
Four single target Cure Wounds, four healed players, one turn.
If I have a deep enough Font of Magic (enough Sorcerer Points) to fuel all of that, is it within the rules? Or nor so much?
Nice idea, but sadly (unless your DM rules otherwise) the rules as written are:
"You can use only one Metamagic option on a spell when you cast it, unless otherwise noted." and " Spell casting: BONUS ACTION: A spell cast with a bonus action is especially swift. You must use a bonus action on your turn to cast the spell, provided that you haven't already taken a bonus action this turn. You can't cast another spell during the same turn, except for a cantrip with a casting time of I action."
And the only meta magic you can combine with others is currently Empowered Spell (unless somethig is buried in uneartherd arcana that I haven't seen).
EDIT: you could howevre quick cast Spare the Dying for a bonus action and then twin spell Spare the Dying as an Action if your party is all lying on the floor bleeding out but you'd have to be in touch range of them all.
EDIT 2:....thinking about it you could take a dip into cleric (grave domain) and be able to cast spare the dying with a 30ft range to further boost it....
So I am stuck either quickening the first Cure Wounds, and then Twinning a second Cure Wounds for a total of three touch range Heals; or twinning a Healing Word and a Cure Wounds ... Not as good depending on rolls, but still effective ...
Edit: nope cant even do that ... Need a way to cast a healing spell at cantrip level lol. Is there maybe a feat that can bypass this? I remember Matt doing something like this as a possible homebrew?
I think you might mean the Spelldriver feat from the Tal'Dorai campaign guide, it has a pre requisite fo being an 8th level caster to get but would be a way around the meta magic issue but does have a limitation on the level of spells you can use with it. The feat is on pag 109 of the campaign guide.
Alternate idea: talk (IC) to your party mates, about combat tactics to where you don’t need to heal/spare the dying 2-4 of them at a time all the time.
