I've recently discovered and been fascinated by Echo Knights from Explorer's Guide to Wildemount. I think they have a ton of role-playing potential. I'd be curious to hear other people's ideas or character concepts for members of that class? What concepts have you come up with or think might be cool?
One idea I've been kicking around is an Echo Knight with a split personality of sorts. Though an expansion on the rules as written, I'm imagining a righteous knight who's Echo (through the Manifest Echo class feature) has a personality unto itself. It is still just an Echo by all the rules, but perhaps instead of a version of the Knight from another timeline, it is rather his own shadow come to life, his split personality. He has learned to manage some control over his shadow, but it is not wholly of the same mind or alignment as the knight. The knight's shadow is perhaps possessed by something else, or perhaps is just a manifestation of his own darkside or fears. But the shadow has its own motives and desires...
Oh, of course the knight's shadow has a mutual interest in keeping the knight alive, but what if it could speak. Perhaps it tries to convince the knight himself to take different courses of action, like a devil sitting on your shoulder. Or perhaps it tries to persuade the party to do things differently. I can imagine the Echo manifesting itself while the Knight slept. And while it couldn't physically do anything on its own, perhaps it could talk with the other party members, or some NPCs. And perhaps make share knowledge or make deals, literally behind the knight's back.
Imagine if your own darkside or dark thoughts were manifested in front of you. What tensions might arise, what conflicts?
I made a goblin echo knight whose echo is their 'invisible friend'. They got kicked out of their clan for causing trouble, blaming it on their friend, but no one believed them. It was a ranged dex-fighter build called Pew. With their echo, they were Pew Pew.

Love this idea. Reminds me of Calvin and Hobbs. A much lighter take on the darkside shadow Echo.

What if a tribe worshiped their ancestors instead of gods? Maybe this could be ancestors coming forth to help the living members of their tribe in a time of great need.
I'm making an Echo Knight character rn. The idea is he died in some battle and came back with no memories. He can see where his armor was pierced but there are no wounds or scars underneath. For levels 1 and 2 (Before he can manifest Echo) he is haunted, minorly, by the ghost of himself. Seeing its spectral form instead of himself in the mirror, it replaces someone hes talking to for a brief moment, etc. Then level 3 and on, he learns to control this extension of himself. Even if he's not quite sure what it is or where it came from. Also, he's not sure if he's immortal or not, but there isn't a great way to test that theory without dying.
Also, Talion (/Celebrimbor) from Shadow of Mordor is literally just an Echo Knight.

What ideas might you have?
The fighter when not using his echo is a normal personality
when active the fighter is one side of their personality and the echo the other
The character Ekko from League of Legends. This subclass was literally made for him. Make him cocky and proficiency in tinkers tools.

Awesome, I'll check it out.
It does remind me of Calvin and Hobbs too.

Ooh, a Tairndal Elf that draws upon the power of its ancestors to create echoes of them to aid them in combat? Sounds awesome!
