This kinda fits in story and lore but I’m not exactly sure, sorry
I had an idea for a really stupid charaacter. Basically it‘s someone who isn‘t actually a vampire, but it has all the traits of a vampire through various different deals with eldritch beings or whatever. I‘m fairly new to dnd so I’m not sure which deities or demons would fit the different aspect…help?
btw, they also get the negative traits of vampires (i decided that they got the burn-in-the-sun-thing just because the sun has some personal grudge against them)
There's nothing stupid about this! Further, I think you can frame this from existing materials.
I'd suggest going with a Dhampir from Van Richten's Guide to Ravenloft. to start.
They have a Hunger (which can be Blood) and the Ancestral Legacy, which you can use to show who/what the character was before becoming Dhampir. OR they can just always have been one and get two bonus skills. They gain Darkvission, don't need to breathe, and gain Spider Climb and Vampiric Bite as abilities. All of these ideas fit well into your list!
Going deeper, I'd build a Warlock of the Undying Patronage. That will throw even more "undead" into the mix while expanding the character's spell choices in thematic ways. Plus, you can take the Fiendish Vigor invocation at the start, making the character more resilient, as well as Eldritch Sight (both without level restrictions) to show how beyond mortal power the character's sensitivity is.
Going deeper? Take the Tough feat (PHB) for bonus HP to double down on how durable a vampire is. Shadow Touched (Tasha's) for another spell, plus Invisibility (vampire trope).
As far as the weakness goes, you can talk to your DM about picking up Sunlight Sensitivity, but it's not the normal/default for a Dhampir. So, picking it up extra is a choice the two of you would need to discuss.
Oh, that sounds like a wildly fun character concept. Let's spin some ideas on how your faux-vampire can achieve their vampiric traits through otherworldly bargains.
Sunlight Sensitivity: For the trait where your character is negatively affected by sunlight, we could say they made a deal with a deity or entity associated with darkness or the night. In D&D, a fitting candidate could be Shar, the goddess of darkness and loss. Maybe your character sought power or protection at night and got more than they bargained for, like a deep loathing from the sun itself, or maybe Shar's rival, Lathander the god of dawn, decided to curse your character in response. Oh dang.
Blood Thirst: This trait can be a deal with a demon or entity that thrives on chaos and suffering. Graz'zt, the Dark Prince of Pleasure and Pain, would be a deliciously fitting patron for such a pact. Graz'zt could grant your character the insatiable desire to consume life essence (blood) in exchange for seductive, charming powers.
Charm Abilities: The ability to charm others could come from an enchantment by a fey being. The Queen of Air and Darkness, a mysterious and powerful ruler of the Gloaming Court in the Feywild, known for her deceptive beauty, could have bestowed this ability on your character as part of a faustian deal.
But mixing and matching so much lore for several traits is bit much... oh well, let's continue LOL
Regeneration: For the vampire-like ability to quickly heal, your character might have struck a deal with Bhaal, the god of murder, who in return demands a quota of souls or lives to be taken to sustain this gift.
Immortality or Undeath: This could be the result of a pact with Vecna, the god of secrets and undeath. Perhaps in exchange for eternal life, your character must forever seek out and hoard esoteric knowledge or forbidden secrets, acting as Vecna's agent in the material world.
Weaknesses: Other typical vampire weaknesses like a vulnerability to running water or an aversion to garlic could be humorous twists from minor fey creatures or lesser demons your character annoyed in the past. Imagine a petty water sprite or a minor demon of the hearth that cursed your character over a slight or misunderstanding.
Hey, sorry to change the subject but I made a ramped up hexblood druid but the story line involves me later playing as a hag. any ideas for a way to make that work?
I got just the answer...it's in the UA 76 Hexblood description:
"Hags can undertake a ritual to irreversibly transform a hexblood they created into a new hag, either one of their own kind or that embodies the hexblood’s nature. This requires that both the hag and hexblood be in the same place and consent to the lengthy ritual— circumstances most hexbloods shun but might come to accept over the course of centuries. Once a hexblood undergoes this irreversible ritual, they emerge as a hag NPC no longer under the control of the hexblood’s player, unless the DM rules otherwise."
