Hey everyone, i'm sure its ancient news by now, but the eladrine that we get as a player race compared to the eladrine mobs that a dm can toss at the players are soooo far from one another, which leads me to ask why.
Why is the monster eladrine is considered a fey while the player one is a humanoid?
Why can they misty step almost with no pause while the player version can only do so once?
And why do they have special abillities and magic resistence the player eladrine does not?
Now its clear its mechanical for the most part, but i hope to ease myself knowing there is an offical lore reason, otherwise ill be rather bummed out.
The main reason? Balance. You've said you know that, now onto lore...
A typical eladrin (monster) probably grew up in the fey wild for a long time, they would learn more about magic and such while there. A level 1 adventurer is no where near as powerful as a cr 9 ( I think?). Because one has had training the other hasn't. It's as simple as that.

In 4e at least, eladrin could refer to: celestial elves (as the original eladrin were), elves of the Feywild (which would be the monster eladrin, likely), and sun elves were also called eladrin. It led to some confusion.
I see what you are getting at,but according to the tome if foes, the monster eldarin and the player race eldarin are the same race, which begs the question... what gives? Whats the lore difference??
Mate, there is almost no lore involved. It's balance, and asking more is just not helping. Balance and balance only. You don't like it? Don't play and eladrin. Just don't.

MToF changed a lot of lore in regards to the elves, but the eladrin in there are the eladrin of the Feywild (so I guess the "monster eladrin"). Part of the difference I think is where they live. The Feywild itself is different from the material plane, and the creatures there are going to have adapted to living there. Also, if you're going by MToF, the eladrin are closer to the primal elves (something that is unique to MToF), but even without the lore changes in that book, eladrin of the Feywild are, well, more "fey" than eladrin/elves of the material plane, and the longer they dwell there, the more "fey" they are going to become.

Like I said: time spent training. One has time to actually be good, the other is new to it.

But it still does not answer, why the player race is considered humanoid while the other is labled fey,i think its slightly more than training

Im not asking for more i was asking for answers, jesus no need to be all hostile...
the reason is monsters were more exposed to the feywild than the player race and evolution made them different as well as training
